"Babe."
Sapnap turned, a hand on his shoulder. Karl was stood with their child in his arms.
"mhm." Sapnap reached to his shoulder, squeezing Karl's hand before pulling away.
"What's wrong, you've not said a word in hours." Karl sighed letting his free hand run through Sapnaps hair as he used his other to hold up their daughter.
"He was in my chat." he paused looking back to Karl, meeting his confused gaze, "earlier on, he was there."
"Who?"
"George."
"George?" Karl's eyebrows raised in shock, he put his daughter down. "Go play honey, me and daddy need to talk."
" m'kay" she hummed running off into the house. Sapnap looked down to his plate of food, he'd barely touched it. His stomach felt too unsettled to the point he was certain he'd throw up from even just a nibble.
"Are you sure?" Karl sat in the wooden chair opposite Sapnap watching his expression closely, Sapnap let out a huff running a hand through his hair and biting on his lower lip. "His old twitch account might've been hacked or something."
"I guess." Sapnap sighed, "It's just... weird. Y'know? He's been dead almost six years, why would someone hack him now."
"Not sure Sap, people are weird these days." Karl reached across the table grabbing sapnaps hand and squeezing it tight to reassure him, to provide a sense of comfort he needed in that moment. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," he cleared his throat, "course, just freaked me out a little."
"Let me get Nelly to bed and i'll feed Matilda, then we can go cuddle in bed, okay?" Karl smiled, standing. The chair made a somewhat loud shriek as the legs of it pushed against the wooden floor from his movement, the sound caused both men to cringe. Karl brushed a hand through Sapnaps hair, bending over and planting a kiss on his head before disappearing into the house.
For a moment Sapnap let his head rest in his hands, despite hours having passed since the stream he still couldn't wrap his head around it.
For years he'd told himself George had died, that was the only valid reason for him to just disappear. Death.
So, it was only right for him to assume George would never come back. To cope with that, he attempted to erase everything to do with George out of his life, he refused to watch old videos that included George and even went as far as avoiding tv shows with british characters that reminded him of George. It was somewhat insane and massively drastic, but he didn't want to think about it. He wanted life to move on.
So after Sapnap moved out of Dreams house, he vowed to never think voluntarily about the dream team at all again. Of course when he got back into content creation, as the only active member of the Dream team he was asked questions, for a long time he had it muted by mods so people wouldn't ask. Unfortunately for him though, sometimes things would slip through causing him to have to make an answer up on the spot.
At twenty two Sapnap had bought his first apartment to live in alone, he'd moved out of Florida, to him it only had negative memories.
At twenty three he got a call from Orlando regional, saying there had been an accident and that he needed to come quick. He half expected it to be something to do with Dream, yet it was most definitely not. Upon walking in, he saw a little girl no older than three sat on the edge of a blue hospital chair, the waiting room of a ward he didn't recognise. Soft brown hair straight as a pin dangling down hair face and tucked mostly behind her ear, in her right hand was a small blue cat plush and she looked nervous, like a deer in headlights.
"Mr Walker?" He turned, spinning on his heel seeing a doctor in a white coat, a frown on his face.
"Hello?" He raised a brow, crossing his arms.
"I'm sorry to have called you here so late, i have unfortunate news."
"Yes, go on." Now he was even more confused.
"Your partner, Ms Alice Rosa?"
ex partner, he thought to himself
"Ex, but mhm, continue."
"She passed away a few hours ago, it's been almost impossible to contact you to collect your daughter." He sighed glancing to the little girl then back to Sapnap. "I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss, the nurses were advised to not tell little Nelly what had happened, so i regret to inform you that you need to do so- within your own time of course."
Daughter?
Alice was dead?Alice and Sapnap had split up a few weeks after he had first moved in with Dream, they were dating for around a year and four months, but hell- he didn't know she was pregnant. Now she was dead?
He simply nodded to the doctor, who gave him a short pat on the shoulder before walking away.
He couldn't just say he didn't know the young girl, she'd end up in care- that's no life for a child.
So at twenty-three he took on the responsibility of being a father. At first it was terrifying, looking after a three year old with little to no experience with children, he kept her face off of social media and kept her a secret. For the first year it was hard.
At twenty four his friend Jimmy had started a company and needed people with experience within social media to help, so Sapnap practically jumped for joy at the opportunity, flexible hours so he could look after Nelly as well as having some sort of stable income still coming in. At work he began working alongside Karl Jacobs, they were incredibly close in their content creation days but began to drift away from each other after George passed away.
Karl and Sapnap became closer by day, eventually they were in love. Nelly adored Karl, she was attached to him like a leech most days, so at twenty five, Sapnap proposed to Karl.
He tweeted to announce it, accidentally making a typo writing 'she' instead of 'he' which Karl still wouldn't let him live down even eight months on.
Now, at twenty six and one quarter Sapnap was engaged, owned his own house. Lived with his fiancé, seven year old daughter Nelly and their cat Matilda. Whom was named by Nelly after she watched the movie eight times in a row, thinking if she named the cat Matilda, it would also have 'magic powers.'
"Nellys asleep and Matildas been fed, come on honey." Karl smiled, Sapnap stood and Karl wrapped his arms around his middle holding him tight. "Big hugs to cheer you up." Karl chuckled. Sapnap let a fond smile take over his face as his head settled against his partners chest.
"Can we go to bed now, i'm exhausted." Sapnap stretched as he pulled away from the hug, Karl nodded and began walking to their room.
The two got into bed, Karl's head finding it's way to Sapnaps chest as sapnap began to absentmindedly play with Karl's hair, fingers brushing through and twirling the curls as he went back to his deep thought train.
What if it was George?
And George had been alive this whole time.
Did George just want him and Dream gone.
Dream most definitely hated him now, there was no point even trying to contact him about it. All their other close friends from the time had moved on. Quackity was now one of the top lawyers in the USA, Bad had since gotten a medical degree and was now working in a children's hospital in London and Callahan was- well, nobody really knew.
If it was George, surely he'd reach out at some point if he was lurking. It's not like Sapnap could contact him at all.
"Babe," Karl frowned, wiping at his eyes. "Just go to sleep, it's really late."
"Sorry- yeah." He sighed, settling into the sheets and holding Karl tighter than he had most nights. His life felt as if it was about to flip upside down.
