A- autism

working with autism has its advantages and disadvantages. Jay has Asperger syndrome, this is where he struggles with the ability to effectively interact and communicate with people. 

This can be a disadvantage with being a detective because as you have to talk to people but you have to show sympathy why talking to family and friends when coming to a lost one.

advantages though Is that Jay can figure out patterns and can notice very little things that someone without Autism is not able to notice.

nobody knew about Jay's autism except Voight and Will and he likes to keep it that way he isn't embarrassed just it feels right with them not knowing but then that day came and then EVERYONE found out.

it was the middle of September and there had been multiple murders within the same neighbourhood of Chicago that neighbourhood in Canaryville. they were all stood around the 4th body being a teenager walking home from school.

there was a lot of noises shouting and screaming sirens cars going by coughing sniffling pencils on paper. these noises were causing a lot of problems for Jay and he tried to mask that he was having a meltdown but it wasn't working as well had he hoped. 

he started to scratch his upper right arm very viciously and he was looking for something anything. then Antonio noticed.

he walked up to Voight quietly trying not to be noticed and said "hey something's up with Jay" Voight looked towards his detective and knew what was happening instantly he quietly cursed, he walked towards jay going into dad mode.

"hey your okay Jay everything's ok," he said rubbing his arm.

"Hey Dawson pull your car around I need you to take Jay back to the district cause I can't leave the scene ut go in the back of the district and put him in my office close the door and shades hold him in your arms and try to get him to stop hurting his arm," he said to Antonio.

"yeah no problem" Antonio said running across the road and into the car and bringing it in front of Jay and Voight they got him into the car and they zoomed off back to the district and Voight called Trudy.

"hank what ups," she said.

"I need you to make sure nobody is at the back of the district in the next ten minutes," he said.

"okay why," she asked.

"it's Jay he isn't okay and Antonio he getting him back to the hospital," he said not saying anything else.

"Yeah, no problem," she said and hung up.

Trudy called him over and told her to get everyone out of the back.

when Antonio and Jay pulled into the garage Jay had gotten worse he was sobbing and now both his arms were completely bloody.

Trudy came downstairs to see that and her heart instantly broke. "what you need Dawson"

"need help getting him into Voights office," he said. she nodded and grabbed jays left arm and held him into Voights office when they got in there Trudy dropped to the floor with Jay and wrapped her arms around him protectively and rocking him back and forth as Antonio closed the blinds.

As Trudy carried on rocking him he stopped hurting himself and his sobs turned into whimpered.

your okay" she carried on saying to him. and he fell into a deep sleep against Platt.

"what the hell happened," Trudy said.

"We were at the scene and he just started acting weird then one thing led to another you have ever seen him like this before," he asked.

with the 6 almost 7 years of knowing Jay he had never acted in such a way "no but there is one possible thing that could have caused this but I don't want to jump to conclusions"

Voight walked into his office and say that Jay was asleep in platts arms. "how long has he been asleep"

"2 minutes tops not long," Dawson said.

"alright I have called Will to come to get him," he said.

"Voight is this what I think this is," Platt said and gave Voight a look. "does Jay have autism"

Voight slowly nodded #.

"wait what how he has never been like this before," Tonio said.

"umm he rarely has meltdowns the last one he had was three years ago but he was off work at the time he didn't want to say anything to everyone because he felt more comfortable people not knowing," Voight said.

"that is understandable," Platt said.

he started to stir but stayed asleep.

"what you gonna tell the others they must have noticed his absence," Dawson said.

"They already asked me but I said that he wasn't feeling too good so I sent him here they all believed me," Voight said.

there was then a knock at the door at Will came in the room. "hey guys how is he" 

"just fell asleep" Platt said.

"hey I will swap with you," Will said and swapped potions with Trudy which caused Jay to stur even more and open his eyes seen will show confusion "Will," he said.

"Hey bud," Will said who was now rubbing his hand through his hair.

"why you here"

"well you had a breakdown and I am going to take you home," he said.

"what about work," he asked.

"well Goodwin gave me a couple of days of and I am sure you won't be coming in for the next couple of days," he said and Jay nodded slightly still looking at will.

"you wanna go home bud" will ask him and Jay nodded. he slowly got up off the floor bringing Jay with him and jay attached to Will his head laid in his neck and arms wrapped around his brother's torso.

"hey you'll be fine to go out there they have all gone somewhere," Voight said.

"Thanks, guys, come on you, "Will said to jay nudging him on to get out of the office.

"Jay," Trudy said and he turned around.

"I don't want to see you come through those doors for at least two days or I will drag your ass home," she said firmly and Jay nodded and turned back around walking down the stairs.

the brothers had arrived home and Jay walked straight through to his bedroom and stripped down to his boxers, putting on some pyjama pants and getting into bed. Will then walked in a couple of minutes after carrying a blue teddy bear and a blanket.

"here bud through you might need these," he said and gave them to Jay who instantly grabbed them and cuddled them for comfort.

"you need anything," Will asked quietly 

"stay please," Jay said.

"you got it" Will replied getting into getting next to him and Will wrapping Jay in a protective hug as he slowly started to fall asleep at the comfort.

"love you baby bro" Will mumbled.

"love you, too," Jay said falling asleep seconds later.
