Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a relatively common condition where the walls of the throat relax and narrow during sleep, interrupting normal breathing.

when Jay got diagnosed with OSA or obstructive sleep apnoea when Will moved back to Chicago and stayed with Jay. since jay was diagnosed he has been using a mandibular advancement device or a MAD. A MAD is worn over your teeth when you're asleep. It's designed to hold your jaw and tongue forward to increase the space at the back of your throat and reduce the narrowing of your airway that causes snoring.

since Hailey and Jay just started dating Jay doesn't want to bring it up but he isn't the best at hiding things around Hailey.

it was about half 4 when Hailey's phone rang. she sat up and picked up her phone "hello" she answered.

"hey Upton we got a case," Voight said.

"alright text me the address and ill be there," she said and hung up.

she got out of bed and got changed. once she was changed she walked over to Jay's side of the bed to wake him up.

"hey Jay," she said rocking him but he didn't budge.

she sighed and kissed his lips and noticed something odd, Jay stored and opened his eyes.

"We caught come on," she said and he nodded and stretched.

"Hey, what's in your mouth," Hailey asked. and Jay sort of froze and took the guard out of his mouth and hid it.

"Nothing," he said and got out of bed to get dressed.

"jay," she said.

"it's nothing lets go," he said walking out of their room.

"we're talking about this later," she said as they walked out of the apartment and off to work.

for the day jay was acting odd he was quieter than normal and kept to himself which the unit was surprised at how he was acting.

"Hailey come here," Voight said from the doorway of his office they both walked in and she shut the door.

they sat down and she said "what's up sarge"

"what's up with Jay he is too quiet and isn't acting like Jay if you know what I mean," he said.

"I don't know he is barely speaking but is probably that he's tired only having 3 hours of sleep" she lied not wanting to mention what happened this morning.

"alright talk to him and if he's tired have him sleep in the break room or something," he said and she nodded and walked out. she walked over to jay and motioned him to the break room and he followed.

"what's up," he asked sitting on the couch.

"you gonna tell me what's bothering you," she asked sitting next to him.

"noting," he said.

"don't lie to me Jay everyone can see you acting weird your quiet and that's not you," she said and he didn't say anything just looked at his hands.

"is it about this morning and that mouth guard thing because you don't have to tell me you know that right," she said.

"I want to but youll think its stupid," he said.

"jay don't be silly I'm sure for a fact that I have heard worse," she said.

"it helps me sleep," he said.

"in what way" she based.

"I have OSA obstructive sleep apnea," he said.

"Isn't that something to help you breathe?" she asked and he nodded.

"When I sleep the muscles in my throat relax which causes me to snore and sometimes stop breathing so I have that guard so that it helps me breathe," he said.

"you think that's stupid Jay it helps you sleep and keeps you breathing that is far from stupid," she said and he looked at her.

"you look tired," Hailey said.

"you not angry," he asked.

"for what are you keeping it from me I don't care if you keep it from me you felt uncomfortable I'm not going to force you to tell me anything you know that right," she said and he nodded.

"you wanna go home go sleep I'm sure Voight won't mind" she asked and he nodded.

"go wait in the car ill tell Voight," she said and they walked out of the breakroom Hailey asked Voight and then drove home.

when they got home Jay instantly went into the bedroom while Hailey was putting stuff away. she walked into the bedroom to see jay in only his boxers sprawled out on the bed fast asleep.

she softly laughed and got him under the covers and joined him.
