part seven

  We arrived at the police station.
Sam and Deena came went in to tell them what happened while kate, simon, Josh, and I waited outside.
  I sighed and looked down at the ground. Kate took her hand and put it softly on my shoulder. "I promise everything will be okay," she spoke.
I smiled weakly, "I know."
Simon was tapping his foot and said, "I'm going to take a leak. You guys finish your bonding." I was sitting on the edge of the ambulance.
I said to Josh, "this doesn't feel right. I mean, ryan is dead, but he suddenly appears and is trying to kill us." I shook my head and shut my eyes. Kate said, "well who even knows what she saw."

  "It just seems wrong that's all. what if shadyside is really cursed," I spoke.
I continued, "and for gods sake why the hell does my mom try and protect me so much. It's not like I won't get hurt."
Kate said, "I do agree that shadyside is fucked up, but I understand your mom. She lived in shadyside for a long time right?"
"yes," I said rubbing my temples.

"there it is, she is protecting you. I've known elise ever since we became friends. Your mom only wants to help you, and I support that because I don't want my best friend dieing," she said finishing her rant.
Josh said slowly, "well okay-"
I then heard angry voices and Deena coming out of the police station. She was grinning and came over to us.
Josh asked, "what happened?"
  Deena pulled a gun out from behind her.

Sam said forcefully, "you stole a cops gun?"

"fuck yeah she did,"  kate said proudly.

At that moment we heard someone screaming.
a mans screams.
 

  simon's screams.

I started running toward where the screams were coming from. 
In that moment I was afraid.
  fear.
I thought one of my best friends was going to die. My shoes hit the pavement hard as I jogged in his direction. I was yelling repeatedly, "simon simon."
 
  I could see that my friends were following behind me. When I stopped in my tracks in the middle of the road. Simon was being attacked by a woman.
She was young and thin with long brown hair.

"Deena the gun," Sam shouted.

Deena fired bullets that hit the woman in the back. She fell to the ground hard.
Kate screamed, "come on let's get out of here."

Simon was shocked and quickly got up and started running. I was about to turn but I saw something shining laying right beside her.

  I paused and starred at it.

"come on daphne we have to go," Sam cried.

I felt this sudden impulse to grab the object.

My hand reached out and grabbed the object.

  It was a necklace.

   the same necklace my mom wears around her neck every day.
