A girl in her 20s was sitting in front of the mirror all decked up in a dark red color Banarsi saree which was once gifted to her by someone who is very special and important to her. Her love for him was unconditional and she would do anything for him. Her deep black orbs were adorned with kohl which looked exquisite and were filled with various emotions. Her golden necklaces hung from her neck, adding an additional layer of beauty to her beauty. Her wrists were embellished with gold bangles and the Shakha pola, handcrafted with excellence. After two months, her fingers were painted red once again. Her etheric looks would make anyone fall in love with her.
The only thing she missed was her beautiful smile. Life was gone from her, and her exquisite eyes were filled with tears that would fall at any moment. As soon as she requested it, the women who were getting her ready for the most important day of her life left the room and left her alone.
Her gaze was fixed on the mirror as she sat alone. Suddenly, he walked into her room and looked at her with a subtle smile. In a pleading tone, Bondita turned around and began to look at him. He extended his hands for Bondita to keep her hands on his. Bondita placed her hands on his palm and they descended down the stairs. Bondita and Anirudh's gaze were fixed on each others. Anirudh took Bondita towards the place where the marriage ceremony was going to be held. And for the last time he placed a kiss on her forehead and started to move backwards.
Bondita tried to stop him and was going to him when he indicated her not to. She stopped herself and sat on the place where the marriage was going to take place. It was a simple marriage with only the bride, groom and the family members because there was no happiness and excitement that was 3 months ago.
All the rituals took place and it was the time for the groom to fill the bride's hairline with a pinch of vermillion that would indicate that the bride was his. All these while, Bondita was gazing at Anirudh with tears filled in her eyes. The groom filled her hairline and she closed her eyes while the tears rolled down her cheeks. All the past memories that she shared with her love came as flashes in her mind and the only voice that was echoing in her ears were:- ' Bondita, promise me that you won't spoil your life after I will be gone. Not for your self, at least think of our unborn child. The society won't let you live. Please promise me that you will marry Veer just for the sake of our child, so that he/she can get a father's love. I am not doubting your love but this society... You know.' He said this and breathed his last.
Bondita opened her eyes and saw him waving his hands and indicating her to smile. She smiled and he vanished in the air.
