LANDON POV
I thought Dr. Saltzman would go after Hope, but he knew her as well as I did to realize she wanted to be alone. After hearing the whole story and finding out that he had two cousins with a politically complicated relationship, it's no wonder he wanted some time alone. She went back into the bedroom and threw herself on the bed. It was a lot of information to process and all I was thinking about was how I wanted to comfort her and make her feel good. After a moment, she got up and went to the dresser, took our photo, and sat back down on the bed.
H: - Damn when Lizzie confiscated the magic crystal, I miss hearing your voice.
She caressed my face in the photo and wiped a tear away before it fell down her face.
H: - Please don't think I'm selfish for what I just did.
LA: - I don't think so. I know you're just scared. - He said sitting beside him.
Knowing she couldn't hear me and avoiding talking to her were two very different things.
H: - It's not that I don't care about the many lives that can be lost, it's just that I can't be alpha. Much less a pack I have nothing to do with.
LA: - I know. I also know they understand your side.
She was silent for a moment, got up, and returned the photo to the dresser. He stroked my face again and said:
H: - I wish you were here, you could tell me what to do.
LA: - I'm here, and you know exactly what to do, you always do. All you have to do is use the courage you have to spare with you.
Hope closed her eyes and took a deep breath, when she opened them, her gaze had taken on a determined glow. Then she turned and left the room slamming the door. Then back to the basement, where Marco was sitting on the floor of his cell, twirling the ring on his finger.
H: - Are you still here? She looked positively surprised.
M: - Where else would I be?
H: - I thought Dr. Saltzman would set you free.
M: - He said it was his decision, that he would ask you tomorrow.
H: - I gave you the ring, didn't I? I could have escaped if I wanted to.
M: - Maybe I don't want to.
That guy was an interesting guy. Even knowing him as little as Hope, he had a trustworthy look in his eyes. He didn't seem like the kind of person who lied and manipulated, I say this with the propriety of someone who was like that, even if for survival. He was calm in that cell, I think, deep down, he didn't leave for two reasons: first because he knew Hope would come back to talk a little more; second, because I was hoping she'd change her mind about being alpha. To be honest, being Hope, he was right to hope.
H: - I won't change my mind, if that's what you expect by staying.
M: - What I hope is that you ask the question you really want to ask.
She stared at him for a moment, obviously impressed by his shrewdness.
H: - You said you stole your brother's ring, which means there are no wolves among you who can control the transformation.
M: - Correct.
H: - So how does your brother plan to attack the biggest and strongest pack in the country, with full control of the wolf form, without being defeated?
It was a very good question, for a change Hope was more than right in her thoughts. Marco smiled, apparently impressed by the sharp reasoning of the smartest girl in the world.
