LIZZIE POV

Julio took the wheel after we settled Hope in the backseat with me and Josie. Finch led the way, of course. We dump the Nazi wizard's body in the trunk, I hope he doesn't dare wake up before we get to school. Josie stole one of the dead werewolves' cell phones and we called home. Our father didn't react at all well when he heard we were ambushed, nor did he react to the summary of what went down in that barn. He just said to get back as soon as possible and that's what we'd do. While Julio was driving at high speed, we checked to see if Hope was at all okay. The burns had already healed and the other bruises were almost completely healed. How could anyone do that to someone else? More unbelievable than that, how had she put up with it? The memories of her screams were something I wanted to erase, but what kept pounding in my head was something else.

LI: - Is it true? I asked Julio.

J: - What? - He replied looking in the rearview mirror.

LI: - That she was there when they did this to her mother?

J: - Yeah.

JO: - How?

J: - Damned Roman lured her there. The idea was that what happened today, had happened when she was 15 years old. But Aunt Hayley bought enough time for Klaus to come and get her out of there. Unfortunately, in the midst of this mess of Greta, Roman, Elijah with no memory, Hope ended up unconscious and when she woke up...well, when she woke up everything had already happened.

LI: - So she saw her mother being tortured, she blacked out and when she woke up she was an orphan?

J: - Yeah, that sums it up well.

JO: - She never commented on it.

F: - I wouldn't talk either. If I had seen what we saw today happen to my mother and after waking up from that nightmare she had died, I would have tried to forget.

Silence filled the car for part of the way, the only audible noise was Julio's discreet cry. He knew they were friends, that he obviously wanted to be more than that to Hope, but he didn't quite understand why he was crying. While it must have been hard to see someone he likes so much go through it all without being able to do anything, the thought of it almost made me cry too. That's when we noticed Hope moving.

H: - What happened? - She said trying not to need support.

JO: - Calm down, wait a minute, let's help.

H: - Where are we?

LI: - Going home.

She was silent for a moment, as if to associate everything that had happened.

J: - Hope, how are you?

H: - I'm sorry.

F: - How is it? - She said turning around in the front seat.

H: - I'm sorry you saw that.

I wasn't hallucinating. Had Hope just apologized for being tortured almost to death in front of us? For God's sake, her guilt complex was a lot more serious than I thought. How does someone go through what she went through and the first thing she thinks is to apologize to those who watched?

LI: - Stop. Stop now, Hope!

H: - Lizzie.

JO: - No! Hope, Lizzie is right, stop! None of this was your fault, you don't have to apologize.

J: - Seriously, Hope!

LI: - That damn Nazi couldn't have done that, period. Are we understood?
