Chapter Twenty-One
Stopping, I closed my eyes as grief tried to take me over again. For the past two days I've had to catch myself from tearing up as memory after memory came to me. Each one holding the living and energetic brother-in-mating that I've known for so long. A brother that now was dust in a small pouch heading to Macy sealed with my royal seal.
Now I was remembering the time he was on his bike at the park my senior year. He was trying out a trick I had taught him and only him. A trick that he had been struggling with for a months. He might have gotten it sooner had he not crashed his bike hitting the ramp wrong and getting hurt himself.
But it was that time when he managed to do it perfectly. Louis' bike hadn't even faltered when it hit the ground without an extra bounce. I was up on my feet in an instant shouting my praise to him. Pride filled me all the way.
Rounding the last of the track, he parked his bike at the entrance and raced over to me. "Did you see?! I did it just like you said to do!"
I had nodded and hugged him. "Now you can show everyone up here next weekend with everyone around." I pulled back and held his shoulders at arms length. "Just think, you could become a professional when everything is said and done."
He laughed and the sound now tugged hard at my heart. A laugh so full of life and mischievous promise that was his trademark laugh. "I just might do that big sis. And then you can declare me the Knight of the Bike!"
Ruffling his hair, he laughed as he whined with a smile batting my hand away from his hair. "Come on you little demon. Dad will start to worry about us soon, especially if we are late to dinner. You never miss out on dinner ever!"
He smiled as he raced over to his bike and started pushing it toward Daemon's beast as he's finally let me drive it. Daemon may love me, but he looks like a lost little puppy when it came to his beast. It was his baby and he didn't want anything to happen to it or me.
Looking over at Daemon now, he's fully forgotten about his beast. It no longer matter. He had handed over his keys without a care when the war started. Because it was just a vehicle now. Not something he tinkered with all the time over the years. Now his mind was on more things than a mechanical beast.
A hand slipped into mine and I looked to my right. Faith looked up to me with her eyes so red from crying. There hadn't been a moment that she's not been crying. I didn't blame her either. I was just surprised when she continued to help carry things even when Lane tried to keep her from doing so.
I took my hand out of hers and looped my arms around her. "Thank you."
She nodded. "I was thinking of him again too." Her voice cracking with the pain she had constantly.
"He was a great guy."
"More than great." A soft sob came out as she gripped my coat at my sides.
"Yeah he was. He knew how to make everything so much better. He joked and was fun all the time." I pulled back and looked down at her seeing how tiny she was against me. "The first time I met him, he and Lane had blown into my ears together in order to wake me up."
I felt her smiling against my chest. "He did the tiniest breathe into my ear once and I gave him a bloody nose."
Giggling, I rubbed her back. "My brother did the same thing. Neither of the twins did that ever again to him because they both had to have their noses reset."
She tilted her head up and pouted up at me. "He hit them that hard?"
A shrug. "My brother hadn't gotten used to his wolf strength yet and used all his strength in the hit." It wasn't common back then for either of us to accidentally use our full strength unknowingly.
