Chapter Eleven
"Sit!" Ian pointed to one of the director chairs that encircled the make shift "war" table in my tent. It consisted of four semi-thick logs that a few men chopped up and four tops to crates. A cloth draped over it to cover up what made it up from everyone's eyes. Macy complained about us doing that, but had to grin and bare as we couldn't just bring folding tables with us everywhere we went as there was no room in any of the convoys.
I raised an eyebrow at him. At this he groaned. "You have been working none stop for two weeks now. You are sitting and letting me ease some of the tension out of your shoulders. You're no good to anyone. On the field or off." Shaking his head disappointedly. "You don't want to snap at any one unnecessarily, do you?"
Regretfully I humphed into the seat he indicated. "I almost did last night." Daemon made a tiny comment on how tired I looked. All I did was glare at him for a second, then I pouted realizing how right he had been. I was very tired, but I can't stop. We were at war and it's only been two weeks since the first official battle.
The second he touched my shoulders, I felt how tightly I was wound up. He even grunted as he had to work to loosen my muscles. "Damn Nina. I think after each day I need to work on you because you are too tight."
I shrugged a shoulder before he continued on. "There are others that needed attention to." This time it was I who shook my head. "So many are loosing their homes and injured who haven't even been in a battle."
"None of this is your fault. You did as tradition said and completed the Challenge of Right. It is your right to be Queen and those who oppose us are fools."
I looked ahead at the slightly mud covered cloth door of my tent as slow dropping water droplets fell on the damp ground. It was cold and wet today. The rain seemingly matching my mood yet again as it had after my family's death.
"But will this war be worth it?"
Ian leaned over my head and I looked up at him. "I have no doubt in it. This war will end pain and suffering for generations to come. So many I have met through the years have wanted a time where they wouldn't have to worry about a power hunger Alpha deciding their existed was at an end."
He wrapped his arms around me as if I were a little sister. There have been times he has joked like that. Even in front of others even now that I'm Queen. Everyone knows I have a lot of brother's because of Daemon, so no one cares who shouts "sis" at me. Most just frown and turn back to their duties.
"This isn't your war. It's theirs because they wanted a reason to fight." He titled his head to the side and looked at me. "All we all can do is fight for the end of it. Remember those who have fallen. Be thankful who still stands with us."
I nodded smiling at his dark skinned face. He was right. "Will you keep reminding me of that till the end of this war?"
"I am your loyal and faithful servant. Of course my most heavenly Queen." He joked before releasing me and getting back to work on my shoulders.
Soon my muscles were unbound and I had a renewed strength. A renewed determination. I felt strong and prepare for when the next fight happened.
I stood up and felt my spine crack into place like it hadn't for the past week. Guess I was more in need of Ian's talented hands than I had thought. He even chuckled as I stretched out my loosened body.
Just as I relaxed my arms back down to my sides, the fabric door to the tent opened and Daemon came in. His coat hood up over his head to shield him from the light rain that we were experiencing for today.
