Chapter Twenty-Nine

~~Shane's Point of View~~

A breath in and then one deeper out. Eyes closed, but not tight. Another breath in, then back out but slower this time. My racing heart beat slowing as reality set in. As what just happened came full circle and my hands rested next to me no longer being needed.

The fight was done. The Second laying at my feet. I could feel how his body twitched just slightly, but that was slowing down as the last remaining moments of his life slipped away. A life that I would never have taken. It wasn't how we did anything for this war.

Reality was a harsh and uncaring thing that lived and breathed with us all. That death did come to some at unknown times. Though we were still in a war, death was unexpected yet we all predicted that at some point our time could be up, and it seemed that the grim reaper had this second's name on his list for today.

My hand twitched for a split second at my side. Uneasiness with this outcome for the fight this second filled me up to my Adam's apple. The Second had given me no chance to prevent his death. The way he twisted at the last second, that the hand that held my knife sank deep into his chest. Right into his heart. In that second the snarl on his lips vanished and his eyes wide just a breath before they last all life to them.

The world hazy blue around me giving me the moment I needed after this death. The battle had been going strong for a while now, and I prayed that it would end shortly. How much more beating can either side take. How many more lives were going to end today.

Everyone around me still fighting, but yet oblivious it seemed that I was right here. My eyes wandering around at everyone. They moved just a bit slower than normal and all the details were so crisp and clear. There was also more to every one than I had noticed before last time this happened.

There were hazy shifting colored lines sailing through the air. Looking to my pack members and they all had bluish golden light surrounding each of them and connected between each of them. Looking down to see all the different connecting lines that were connected to me. There weren't just the ones that were from my pack, but also gold and fuchsia mixed together strands of light that oddly made me feel family.

Following one, I saw my uncle Derek fighting and smiled as I did get the meaning of that strand. He was looking concerned as he was fighting one of the Alphas that was against us. I could tell by the dark haze around that Alpha, that he was not one that could ever be on our side. That Alpha was just dark.

There was another color on that Alpha that my father was fighting. A sickly mustard yellow color inked out from his heart. This color made me confused as I couldn't identify the feeling that was associated with it. Maybe I had never felt what he was feeling. It could be one of the few emotions I will never feel as I could never hate or feel any of the darkest emotions that he must be feeling.

Another line of hazy color took my attention away and I followed it willingly. I felt myself rise from the ground where I was knelt down to follow this line. The fuchsia in this line pushed with a heartbeat in time with my own. The gold in this line felt heavenly too. Was this the line that connected Deena and myself together? I didn't care as I wanted with all my heart to help her any way I could.

~~Nina's Point of View~~

Looking up at the enraged Alpha that was on top of me, I didn't even let an ounce of pity or hatred to reach into my heart. It just wasn't who I was, but it certainly was the Alphas that objected to my very existence in this world. The rage and darkness was so clear in his eyes with the snarls coming out of him.
