Chapter Eight

I took in the whole dinning room and still couldn't believe how it was changed over night. The long dinning table was taken out of the room and all but one of the dinning chairs. The one I was currently occupying.

This was my temporary throne. Derek's highly carved head chair from the dinning table. The alpha seat now the royal seat just for now. Heard that one of the Five had the original royal throne that the last royal sat in before the revolt. Savage promised to get me the seat as soon as he says his goodbyes to it, but I told him to keep it. Derek already had a new one being commissioned for me from an old school wood carver. Something special as the new age of royals has returned.

My eyes moved to my right and I smiled at Daemon. He looked down at me and smiled back. I knew he didn't like what was discussed yesterday but knew that if war started, he was going to keep me safe. There was no doubt in my mind that he would even if it risked his own life in the process. I don't want to think of that possibility, but it's still there.

Turning to my left, Derek stood with his eyes taking everyone in. The wheels in his mind going as he placed everyone in the different columns of who was with us and who was against us. Many were obvious, like Acerbi. But there were others that he just couldn't place, like Roughe. I still haven't told him or Daemon about Roughe's position and I might not for a while.

Derek placed a hand on my shoulder and I smiled at him. His eyes turned down to me before he leaned down and kissed my cheek. "Whenever you are ready, you can start your first meeting with your Alphas."

I nodded. "I know, just taking a moment to breathe. We know what is about to happen."

He sighed. "I wish it wouldn't." Derek looked behind my throne and nodded. He was nodding to Ian and my other royal guards.

When I had first seen Ian this morning, I had giggled. No longer was he wearing the usual tight black shirt with black wash jeans. No, now he was in a fully tailored power suit with a tie and all. The tie had a pin with the royal seal on it. His weapons were now fully hidden instead of being completely visible.

He had laughed and gave me a model turn. "So what do you think?" His slightly puffed Afro was now buzzed way down so he looked like just a business man. Well, if it wasn't for the tattoo he had creeping partial up his neck that is. You couldn't tell what it was unless you saw the whole thing. The royal seal with some filigree. He had asked me if he could get it tattooed and I agreed. Derek had found someone that'd do it without any questions asked.

The same went for my other guards. Well, expect for the tattoo bit. Only one of them had gotten a small version tattooed on his back. The other just cringing saying he doesn't do needles. I didn't know why Ian looked at the guy funny, but I didn't push to find out. If the guard didn't want a tattoo, I wasn't about to insist on it. It was his right to say no.

After another deep breathe, I nodded to Derek who cheated his throat. The room immediately hushed and every eye turned to me. Another nod and Derek took a step away from my throne and toward everyone in the room. It was customary for the royal to be announced before the meeting started. Derek was taking the honor of announcing me to all my Alphas.

"By right through the Challenge of Right, I present to you your Queen, Nina Lunnen. Rightful heir to the Throne of Wolves." He turned and bowed to me as did half. The other half just inclined their heads.

Well, now we knew exactly who were opposed to me being Queen.

I saw Daemon scowl at one in particular. Roughe. Maybe he just learned on his own who I didn't say. Or maybe not as there was confusion in his eyes. My mate was completely confused why David Roughe was opposing my position as Queen.
