Chapter Eighteen
Leaning against a tree as the other group made their way to the battle field, I was perfecting my bored look. Shane just inside my view, but still the subject of my focus. The wolf stuck rogues around us looking at one of us. Three looking at me as they stood in a line next to me. No doubt they could smell Shane all over me.
So what?
I was determined to look indifferent toward the handsome jerk that even now still made my body wanting him. The feel of his hands still touching me. The taste of his kiss was still on my lips. The emptiness left after a night of passion I never have known before. How could I possible stay away from him now?
The answer was easy. I never will be able to be a true rogue ever again. I was tied to him by my heart that never ruled me before. Now he held it in his hands and it felt like he placed it over his own heart. The glances he gives me told me as much.
But I have to be realistic, we were in the center of a war that is consuming the entire world. Humans were finding out about our kind very quickly. Reports have been streaming in about the towns of humans that the rebels have torched spreading the word by those who moments later died. Slowly the whole world is knowing what is going on as more and more find out about our war and there is no way to stop it either.
Our Queen has been contacting as many heads of governments as she can with the help of her alphas. She wishes for them to know first hand who she was and what was happening to their peaceful world. Her whole story. From what I understand, most leaders were understanding and were helping in their countries. Just to minimize losses, but it was still something.
Hearing about the United States, where we were right now, I was a bit upset. The fools were thinking it was all a hoax. No matter that there were constant reports about towns burning or vanishing without a trace, they weren't believing that werewolves like us existed let alone are at war with ourselves. We've only seen minimal precautions over the past month after she spoke with the president. The fool and all those negating our existence to him.
Shane looked over at me again and shook his head before my eyes narrowed at him as he walked over to me. Stopping in front of me, he smirked crossing his arms. "Are you seriously going to continue with this fake coldness?"
My eyebrow rose as my eyes dilated a tiny fraction. "I'm just trying to keep my head in the battle to come." I crossed my own arms. "I refuse to worry about your sorry ass."
His features softened and I knew I slipped up. "Nothing will happen to me. I promise."
My jaw clenched. "Don't flatter yourself."
What shocked me the most was when he shot his hand out and cupped the back of my neck pulling me to him. He brought my lips to his and I melted for a heart beat. Then the heart beat ended and I pushed him away from me where he just beamed so very proud of himself.
"Now that should help some of that sourness." He winked. "And you're the right kind of fierceness now." He blew me a kiss. "Now kick some real ass out there on the field."
Against my better judgement, my heart swooned by his words and actions. He was right to kiss me and loosen me up just enough. I felt more centered and determined than I had when he hopped down from the tree. Now I was more than ready for the battle to begin and get it over with.
Thankfully the powers that be up there was listening because it didn't take long before the rebels showed and the battle begun. Shane staying as close as possible to me through the whole battle. The feeling of his eyes glancing towards me told me that he felt even more protective towards me.
