Chapter Nineteen
"Have you had any luck yet?"
I looked sideways at Deena who was once again dressed feminine. This time not in a dress, but in a flowing sheer blush colored peasant top that the neckline glided along the top of her breasts. Her collarbone fully seen along with the tips of her shoulders. The sleeves billowed and swayed in the breeze around her strong and shapely arms. The bottom of the shirt was tucked into the low-rise waistline of her jeans that were ripped every so often to show the creamy, silken skin of her legs.
Deena shook her head giving my the faintest of smiles. "Not yet, but the list dwindles more every moment. Now I just have to check out a few dozen more before I can even say whom I think might be the one."
Our eyes glided over to the clearing hearing more grunts. Our hands no longer working on the new crowns that were mostly done. Right here, we just were us. Two woman watching guys doing guy things. Right now, our guys were training the newer members of our side.
It still shocks me how the rebels could convince so many to die for them under false pretenses. To say that we were the power thirsty villains bent on having everyone bow to us was absurd. Each new person I see personally who didn't know anything else other than what they were told soon found out we weren't the bad guys. That I wasn't the one wanting power. All I ever wanted was for the world to know what I was so I didn't have to hide any longer. To have peace among our kind again. How would that make me a villain?
The men were paired off and sparing with each other. My mate standing off to the side with Shane as they spoke together watching over the groups. Daemon with his arms crossed over his chest and his head tilted slightly, assessing.
"I don't know what I'm doing." I looked over to Deena again and she had a slight blush on her cheeks.
"About Shane?" She nodded. Her fingers fiddling with the crown in her lap, but not in working. In nervousness. "You want to go for a walk and away from them to talk to me about it?"
Her eyes came up to me and I saw how very nervous and unsteady she was about this subject. "If you wouldn't mind."
I gave her a soft smile before I rose from the grounds next to the fallen tree. "Not at all. It'll be nice to have some time to girl talk and help you with what is plaguing you."
Deena spared one last glance at Shane over the distance and then rose from the ground. Shane turning his head and smiling as she stretched. The look of a love sick wolf clear as day. How many weeks has it been since that first night they shared up in a tree? Five now and I've heard some of the rogues talking about how they share a night together before each battle. The other rogues, that were now starting to ban together as a pack following Shane, were hoping the two would finally really be together. Maybe with some nudging on my part, that could happen.
Wandering away from the men, Deena seemed to get more nervous. Maybe it had something to do with the two men following behind us, or maybe it was what was in her head. I was patient enough to let her find the words to tell me what she had on her mind. Deena had become like my sister. Now I wanted her to make a step to be part of my family.
At the stream that flowed along the east side of the camp, Deena stopped and looked down at the flowing liquid. "I hate him sometimes."
I eyebrows shot up. "Who?"
A deep soul touching sigh. "Shane." His name sounded so tortured in her voice.
Taking her hand, I wrapped both of mine around it. "Why would you hate him?"
"Because he can't stopping being..." An exacerbated groan. "HIM!" She took her hand away from me and started to pace. "His laugh, his smile, even the way he looks at me makes me..." Her words failed her as she came to a halt.
