||Chapter Twenty Three||
Welcoming Hell!
After a long time of chattering, and hinting at how nice and cute Carla was, Nour felt sure that something was wrong with Mariam. She didn't act familiar as if she was hiding something. Mariam was always that tough girl but when it came to something personal she turned into a cowardly baby. When she sensed fear she immediately imprisoned herself with a colossal fortress so that no one could ever reach her. Nour wanted to find out the problem to solve it but Mariam didn't bother giving her a clue. Leaving Nour clueless made her end up with multiple conclusions, false ones. Rambling back to her house, Nour found nothing to occupy her mind rather than unraveling the hidden mask Mariam wore.
On the other hand, She never expected the story behind this little game. She was wordless listening to Hamza. It was all entangled in ravishment. How was it easily forgotten or how was it negligently come to pass!? What about Sarah's reputation, and her family's dignity, this womanizer who happened to be her teacher in the school, Hamza's innocence along with his chastity? She smirked to herself the moment she realized, they all indeed wore masks or they would be disgraced with their scandals, and their slanders. Everyone must have experienced a downfall. Either he got to pass it or he was still glued in his place. She knew that she wasn't the only person she got a story to tell. They were all waiting for their turns in the queue to tell their stories as well. No one was true to himself or made of himself a vulnerable self. They knew they had to be strong no matter what, but what she lacked were the strides and the gimmick behind their strength.
Nour was fine until the moment she reached home. It wasn't casually noisy like this. She peeked through the window still standing outside to find all the room's lights were open. She abruptly handled the knock and creaked it open to find her family facing her. There was no reaction rather than their crossed eyebrows and tightened lips. Nour knew it was bad timing. Destiny didn't stand up for her this time. She was out all day. It was nearly midnight and she wasn't allowed even to step outside the house after the school day. What would they think of her? She for a moment shut her eyes getting ready for the blame. What type of family came from a long trip and never hugged their daughter but instead rebuked her? Farida was not here to rescue her, she must have left home and for sure she texted her but Nour's luck wasn't enough that day. Her cell phone died and she couldn't charge it. So she couldn't get the warning!
" Mum!? Dad!? You were supposed to come next week?!" Her question came out slowly and shaky. She didn't know how she would illustrate the situation. She just wished she could go up to her room and rest and do her business. She preferred shortcuts rather than detailed scolding.
"So that you can be alone and come home this late anytime and as you want, huh!? Where have you been all this time? Were you with one of your guy friends? I wouldn't doubt it if you haven't already stayed a night with him!? " Nour was shocked, rather stunned. She didn't ever think that she could be disgusted by her mother's talk. How could she say something like that?
" Mum, how dare you to suspect me like that, I am your daughter. Even if you don't respect me. I will never disrespect myself. For your information too, Farida knows about that and she trusts me more than you. How could you even be my mother, that's if you're indeed my actual mother? " Receiving a slap in the face was not predicted. The slap was hard enough to leave a mark and to make her face numb. She didn't give a shit about the pain that stroke in her body and her eyes were full of distrust, disbelief, and suspicion. That couldn't be her mother. She was cruel enough to hit her without listening or being certain.
"Nour, behave yourself. If I'm not that okay with your mother's treatment, you still owe her some respect, and don't dare to flout your mother. " finally, it was her father that didn't do much of speaking in the family, to be honest. He found everything the mother said was correct even if he had a different opinion. He was less cruel to Nour and Nour appreciated that but his existence wasn't much of a help. He couldn't even stand up for her. He was just ridiculing her with false support and she was ludicrous enough to believe them.
When the conversation intensified, their breath became more blazed and their eyes were full of pain, grudge, and especially disbelief. Her tears raced down her small cheeks. She wished everything to be ended. All she got was mistreatment, hatred, and offense. She was done hearing herself being insulted and disgraced. She rested her hand over her cheek to lessen the pain that started crawling her body and when she moved her hand away, the blood was covering her palm. She couldn't sense herself bleeding previously. The numbness she felt was protecting her from the suffering she felt but it was depressingly a temporary pain relief and the cut was indeed the result of the ring on her mother's finger.
Was this the family she asked for? She asked herself the same questions over and over again but there were always no answers. "Where is the mother's tenderness I need? Where is the father's compassion towards me? Why do I always feel that I am unwanted? Am I that ungrateful daughter to you?"
"Dad, aren't you listening to her, she doubts my virginity. " She tightened her grip on her last hope, but it was the false exit to her misery. She begged for support or assistance to let her end this war. She didn't even know what made it begin or when it even started. However, what she knew was that she received no answer. He was satisfied with the pity eyes he gave her under his rectangular glasses. He was too gutless to stop the woman so he lowered his head in hopelessness.
" Stop, Not another word. I know what I desire to know. You don't ever appreciate what we do for you. All the money we almost die every day to earn and give to you, Is that the result we asked for? " Her mother's voice woke her up from her thoughts and her unanswered questions but it never woke her deadly broken heart. She always wanted to feel the love from them but she got the opposite.
" Let me choose my life! Why do you force me to do things you want?! You always enter my life like a parasite and involve yourselves in every single detail, My education, the man who will live with me, even my friends. Come and live my life if you want! What have I done to deserve this." With almost a barely weak voice she tried to enunciate what she feels, what her heart tried to say but couldn't express. She couldn't bear it anymore. Her eyes were burning and she felt powerful. She waved her hand and threw a vase due to her uncontrolled outrage. She wanted to fight back. If her words were not enough so why not try her punches? All her hopes faded gradually when her eyes fall on the broken glass shattered everywhere. With a spontaneous motion, she grabbed a broken sharp piece and pointed it towards her chest specifically towards her shriveled heart, she was somehow threatening them. What was more important than her life to bargain with and make them stop?
"If you see that I'm useless, so why should I live!! " With tears flew with no direction or even a leader, her lips drew a victorious smile that she finally knew the solution to her problems, she swayed the broken piece and headed it away from her heart and edged the sharp part of the glass to her left hand that resulted in a deep cut to her wrist. Her body weakly descended on her knees and was thrown roughly to the ground with her hand tightened to the broken piece. She heard unconsciously many screams and cries echoing in the whole room with the only word.
"Nour, no!!! "
