||Chapter Twenty-Nine ||
The Sun Will Shine On Us Again
Mariam was fallen in her thoughts staring at the ceiling waiting for a heavy slap from up there telling her to wake up and to guarantee her that what happened was not true. But how could it be when Jesus was mad at her? On remembering this a tear left her right eye and she bite her lips holding her other tears from following. Her mind was crowded right now and she couldn't think of a solution herself.
She didn't know how to deal with all this crap.
Would she pass this year in her school?
Or maybe she could find a job for her financial stability or she would be kicked out?
Or perhaps think about the colossal problem she is facing right now for being on drugs?
Or probably for confessing openly about her sexual preferences?
Her time has stopped for her and she wished it could stay longer but unfortunately, it didn't last a second for her because Carla decided to break into her room."Nour has been calling you multiple times. " Carla's voice crawled to her ears with the sympathy and warmth she always brought. She shut her eyes and replied in the same tone. " I don't want to talk to anyone right now."
"Mariam, talk to me please, I told you everything will be okay." She walked towards her and sat on the bed eyeing her with pity waiting for a reply. But she got nothing. She uttered hoping her words might find peace in her heart and make her rest for a while. Seeing her best friend like that made her heart throb. " I called my cousin and he is gonna follow up with you. He first needs you to do some checkups so he could bring the right treatments. Don't be stubborn. If you care about me even if little. Don't lose hope."
"Carla you don't understand, I am fucked up. My family didn't give a shit about me. I am broke and I didn't even find a job and for sure I am failing in school this year." at this exact time, Mariam straighten her position sitting beside her examining Carla's eyes to try to find that composure she lost years ago. Her eyes were indeed the only quiet spot to take her breath for a while.
" If it's about the money. It would be on me and you can give them back whenever you afford them. After having your well-being back, we can think about other things together. I can't lose you. Why don't you understand? " Carla's words for Mariam, made her heart beat louder. Maybe she was grateful that someone was stuck with her misery or that Carla gave her unconditional love with no limits or boundaries. However, her heart shouldn't be beating like this. It must not. It was still too early for this. She couldn't open herself up like this and she shouldn't be thinking about this now. It wasn't the right time or the right place. What would Carla think of her? But she was relieved for a while she got someone to carry her burden with her, happily offering help with no conditions or paybacks. What she felt with Carla was not similar to Nour.
Nour was her best friend and would forever be but Carla?
Her question made her remember all her insecurities one more time she couldn't reveal what she was. What would her friends think of her? What would Carla think of her if she found that she had feelings for her or the fact that her best friend was a lesbian? Right now, she felt that she wanted someone to hug her heart and pat her soul. Surprisingly, she found herself in Carla's arms, surrounded by her delicate arms making sure she was secured inside her and no one could reach her but Carla. As if Carla noticed her body language or read her mind. Her move made Mariam's heart bounce forward and backward with no stopping. Mariam buried her head in Carla's neck hoping she could stop the marathon inside her. Carla's words found their way to Mariam's ear one more time to encourage her leaving Mariam with goosebumps suffering alone. "First thing, you have to take this week off and both of us won't worry about school or exams or whatever. You won't be allowed to go out, so you're going to stick with me and I will update you whenever my cousin informs me of the schedule we have to follow. Everything will be okay. I will never leave you. " Mariam hummed in agreement locking her eyes still resting her chin on Carla's shoulder and breathing with the protection she never had in a while.
She felt wanted.
She felt loved.
She felt HERSELF one more time.
