||Chapter Thirty-Four || The Falling Angel
She got dressed in a black long-neck pullover to hide the hickeys that bastard made finishing her look with black jeans. She secured her hijab and checked herself one more time before going downstairs. Although she was drowning in her thoughts while showering but she didn't take so long. It only lasted for fifteen minutes. She knew that by any minute now, Farida would be calling her and she was indeed about to call her. She helped them set the table and was looking at Hamza now and then, stealing looks without him recognizing her. She didn't want him to leave but she felt that it was hard for her to admit it. She smiled when she thought of how her auntie let her feel awkward when she refused the idea of Hamza joining the dinner.
They settled at the table. Farida was in the middle and Nour was in her right. Hamza was sitting beside Nour from her left. Everyone started eating but Hamza was daydreaming forgetting the food in front of him. Farida was the first to glimpse him "Son, why are you so quiet? You don't like my food?"
"What...? Of course not. It's so delicious. I just... I didn't feel these vibes for so long. The dinner with you gives me the family reunion that I didn't get the chance to try and to be honest, the recitation in the background is just mesmerizing." He reacted quickly avoiding the misunderstanding. His voice was vigorous feeling as if he wanted to do something but he didn't know what to do. He was about to clarify his situation in more appropriate words to make it easier for them to comprehend until Farida halted him. "You haven't listened to the Quran for a while, huh? Let me remind you that it's okay if we fall or even stumble and get back to the Hedaya one more time. We are humans. We are supposed to make mistakes. We are supposed to have doubts. But it is never late to try over and over again. Allah won't get bored. He will happily guide your way and shower you with his mercy and blessings. It is never too late even to start from the beginning."
He studied Farida's face which was filled with purity and chastity. He was curious how she enunciated with confidence when she is only dependent on Allah. The steadiness he felt in her convinced him. He just gave her a warm smile with a small nod. He reverted his eyes to Nour who was avoiding looking at him. The dinner was a bit calm. Everyone was enjoying the meal and when they finished, Hamza thanked them for the invitation and went outside. Nour followed him after making sure Farida is not around anymore.
He went outside the house and she walked him to the end of the street in silence. He understood her quietness and had the urge to ask her while looking overwhelmed and sighed heavily before speaking " You don't want to talk to me? Is this your punishment because I wasn't there on time? "
She stopped and faced him trying hard to look at his face, she crossed her arms making herself warm and securing herself. "We both know that it is no one's fault. Please, I don't want to talk about what happened anymore. I am waiting for the day that I will completely forget about it" She was so aggravated when she remembered. She vowed to herself that she won't bring up this topic so that piece of shit won't cross her mind again. Hamza noticed her irritated expression and stepped forward caressing her cheeks. She finally put her head up and confessed " I... I...just don't want you to go. "
