Flashback pt. 1

She didn't imagine finding herself on his terrace. His room was tidy and clean. The purple color decored it to the fullest with tiny splashes of white making it more elegant.

" Isn't it too early to bring a drink?" She uttered the moment she found a small glass in his hand and he made his excuse publicly.

" I can't focus without it, want some?" she nodded with no and started scanning the room without any further alert. Hamza spoke his mind.

" I am not a full Muslim. I just happened to have a Muslim name. The concept of religion is still blurred to me. I don't get the point for ritual duties. Why do I have to do that? Why do I have to follow rules that in the first place are obligatory? Why I don't have the right to choose? A lot of things have been prohibited for no reason. I know that I should not judge Islam like that. But having a father who barely knees to his God and a Christian mom is way more complicated. I'm not saying that I am an atheist but I have my ways to obey my creator. It doesn't matter if I'm Muslim, Christian, or even Buddhist. If I have faith that God does exist so be it. Why complicate things when it is just simply the way it is? "

Nour was not completely shocked, to be honest. Hamza's attitude was easy to be figured out. But what made her confused was that he out of nowhere defended himself while not being attacked. She knew well that she didn't mumble something wrong or that she could ever hurt him. But she wouldn't miss the opportunity to correct him some philosophies.

" I'm not going to argue with you about it but I am going to illustrate some points. Maybe you're born forced to follow rules but why do you have to follow the rules? You already chose not to follow!! You're not forced here. You've already known all the paths of each decision. So it is your choice to choose. You know the end of both decisions and you have the full freedom to make your choice. So don't tell me you're forced. You said that you're communicating with your God in your ways and you've chosen your way already. And when you said that I didn't oppose. "

Hamza waited for some moments maybe recalling his ideas to give a suitable reply and then he pointed out, " You know, I've never looked to it that way. I do have a choice but I still have the consequences depending on what I will choose. It is deceiving you. You believed that you have the right to choose but when you look at it from another perspective for example if we take heaven and hell as two paths you will find that whether the path you choose depends on your decision that is already depending on the rules. If you follow these rules you'll be in heaven. If you broke them you'll be in hell. Who wants to be in hell? Nobody. So see, you're forced to follow the rules to have that end. There is no freedom in choosing here. "

Nour never thought about that from this point of view, maybe she made a blunder indulging in this conversation, but her tongue was tied already preventing her from proceeding with her opinion. She didn't know what to say. His opinion was somehow right!!
