Everly

"Look, Leslie Shay wasn't just some victim in this fire. She was my partner and his best friend."

Chief Durango sitting in front of us at his desk sighed as he sat back in his chair.

"No guarantees, alright?"

Kelly and I both nodded.

"But let me see if I can take a look."

Kelly set the bailing wire we found at the scene on his desk.

"Where on the scene did you find this?"

"Buried into the ground between the burn pattern and the propane tanks. Under some debris."

"Did you get pictures?"

I put my head down.

"So you guys removed this from the scene without documenting its original location?"

I looked up at Kelly and sighed.

"You said you couldn't investigate further without evidence. I just brought you evidence."

The man sighed.

"Okay. You're right. Thank you."

"So what now?"

The man looked over at me.

"Now, let me do my job. You wait to hear from me."

Kelly and I both nodded as we got up from our chairs and made our way out of the office.

"What's on your mind?"

I looked up at Kelly and sighed as I  ran a hand through my hair. No matter what Kelly could read me like an open book.

"What if we hadn't gotten called to that storage unit? We never would've known."

Kelly wrapped his arm around my shoulder and kissed the side of my head.

"Things happen for a reason babe. I believe that."

I nodded and put my head down as I rubbed my stomach. Everything happens for a reason.

The whole ride over to the firehouse was silent and I gasped as I saw Megan standing outside of the firehouse as we pulled up. I got out of the car and walked up to the driveway.

"Megan."

She quickly turned around and came over to hug me.

"I got on the first plane."

I nodded before she went to hug Kelly as the guys came out of the firehouse.

"Guys, you remember Megan, Leslie's sister."

They all gave Megan a small smilr as they walked out and over to us.

"Of course. Welcome back to Chicago."

One by one the guys hugged Megan and I forced out a smile as she walked over to me and laid her hand on my stomach.

"I can't believe this is really happening."

I smiled.

"Yeah that makes two of us. Let's get inside."

Megan nodded and I put my head down as we walked inside the firehouse. Kelly, Megan and I sat down at the Squad table and Kelly gave her the file folder of all the evidence we had on the fire that killed her sister.

"Arson?"

I nodded as Kelly rubbed the bottom of my back.

"Looking more and more like it."
