Everly

"I know who our arsonist is."

I took a bite out of my eggs as I looked between Kelly and his dad.

"Hadley?"

Kelly shook his head yes as he looked at his dad that was sitting across the table.

"If one of your former men is now setting fires it doesn't exactly cast your leadership in the most flattering light."

I shook my head as I took a drink of my coffee.

"I want to know why arson investigation is wasting their time checking Hadley's alibis. He uses timing devices. He could set a fire downtown, and be in across town before the first spark. He craves attention. That's what this is about."

"If he thinks nobody's watching maybe that'll throw him off his game and he could get sloppy."

"So I just sit around and wait for him to start another fire? Provoke him?"

Kelly shook his head as he leaned back in his chair.

"Wallace really screwed the pooch on this, huh? How do you let a guy like Hadley just.."

Kelly shook his head.

"Wait, pop. No one saw this coming."

I put my head down and the three of us finished up breakfast before  Kelly and I went to the firehouse for shift. After I changed into my uniform I walked out to the briefing room and sat down as Chief walked in.

"Good morning everyone. I'm gonna need a couple of volunteers to help me with the new wellness program for this house. It involves workshops, physical exams. I believe we all have to have some new kind of fitness diary."

I shook my head as a lot of people groaned.

"So, volunteers?"

I looked around the room and nobody put their hands up.

"I don't have all day."

"Fine I'll do it."

I quickly looked over at Shay who was sitting next to me and furrowed my eyebrows.

"I'll do it too."

Chief nodded.

"Good. You are now the new wellness reps."

Everybody clapped and laughed. Chief finished up the briefing a fee seconds later and I got up before walking over to the ambo to do the inventory before we got any calls.

"You get that email from Mcleod about the new inventory request forms?"

Shay nodded as she stood next to me.

"Yeah. I got it."

I nodded.

"I heard you and Kelly last night by the way."

I cringed.

"Sorry."

She chuckled.

"As long as you're both happy, I don't care."

I looked back at Kelly and smiled.

"Yeah. Come on, let's get this done before Mcleod bites our head off."

Shay shook her head and jumped into the back of the ambulance.

"We're all going to Mouch's campaign event, are you guys coming?"
