Everly

I stood in between Kelly and Matt as they talked to Antonio Dawson. His sister was a paramedic here before she left to go on a rescue mission in Ethiopia. Her and my brother had a small thing but that ended quickly when he met Hallie.

Antonio had worked in Vice for as long as I knew him. He was the one who actually arrested Voight. Oh yeah Voight got arrested and is now in jail. It happened the same day of the accident that happened with the ambulance so I kind of forgot about it.

"This has always been a neighborhood's house."

Antonio nodded.

"You tell me. No run-ins recently? No fires where one of your guys tried to pop off to the local?"

"No. We're not cops. People are happy to see a firefighter show up."

I chuckled and Antonio smirked.

"Could this be Voight related?"

Antonio looked up at my brother.

"Voight?"

"When it comes to gang violence, the man has a long reach."

"He's got a dismissal hearing soon. Not like Voight to stir up the nest if he's trying to free himself."

We all nodded. I looked back and saw the bangers that stood on the corner.

"Why don't you pick up one of these bangers for something small and trade the bust for what they know about the shooters?"

Antonio looked back and then looked back at me.

"Corner boys in this neighborhood are good. We can't catch them with the drugs and make a bust stick. We'll keep our ears to the ground. In the meantime, I'll make sure we have a conspicuous police presence around the station."

"Meaning what?"

We all looked back at Chief.

"Put a special detail on it. Squad outside. Officer posted in the house."

Chief nodded.

"Well, that's fine. So long as my men are safe."

Kelly furrowed his eyebrows and looked back at Chief.

"What? Cops in the house is a bad precedent. Sends a message to the good residents around here that we're not a safe haven."

"You rather have one of us be killed Kelly?"

He shook his head.

"Of course not."

"We will let the police handle their business, and we will handle ours."

Kelly nodded and so did Antonio.

"I'll be in contact Chief. As soon as we get anything."

Chief nodded as Antonio walked out of the firehouse.

"You three are leaders, everybody is going to look at you to lead."

"Got it Chief."

We all nodded and we walked over to the common room.

"Hey, any word on that kid pulled out of the laundry chute?"

I looked over at Otis and shook my head.

"Haven't heard anything else yet. I'll let you if I hear anything."

Everybody nodded and the rest of shift kind of drug on. I walked down the driveway the nest morning with Shay as we both made our way to Kelly's Mustang.
