Kelly

"Is that Ev?"

Chief held me back as I ran through the doors of the hospital.

"I want to see her."

Chief held me back and I sighed.

"Right now there's nothing you can do."

I looked up at Chief.

"What did they say? Is it a head injury? How bad is it?"

Chief shook his head.

"I don't know Kelly."

I looked over Chief's shoulder and looked at Ev who was laying on a stretcher. God she had to be okay.

"Let's go sit down."

I nodded and followed Chief over to the waiting area. I didn't even know she had picked up a extra shift today. She shouldn't even of been there. I paced around the waiting room as we waited. A few minutes later, Matt jogged over.

"What have you heard?"

"Moderate traumatic brain injury, they located the area of the swelling and their going to do an MRI trying to determine the extent of the damage."

Matt looked over to me then back to Chief.

"Is Chout okay?"

"Yeah he's fine. Going to release him here soon."

Matt nodded.

"And the other driver? Two truck, was he DUI?"

"No the breathalyzer came back negative, it was a freak accident. Truck blew a tire."

Matt nodded.

"Every thought and every prayer needs to be directed down that hallway okay?"

Everybody that was sitting in the waiting room nodded. We didn't hear much before we had to go on shift ourselves. Dr. Halstead promised to keep us posted if anything changed. Jay had came by for a little bit but he had to leave to go to work too. I didn't mind, I wasn't a big fan of that guy. He wasn't good for Ev anyways. The firehouse was pretty quiet that day and we didn't get very many calls. For once I was happy with that. I was sitting on the front bumper of the Squad when Shay came over and sat next to me.

"She's going to be alright you know."

I nodded and looked out onto the driveway.

"I don't want the last thing we ever said to each other to be a fight."

Shay nodded.

"It won't but you've got to get better okay?"

I nodded.

"I know."

Just at that moment my phone rang. I dug it out of my pocket before I picked up and heard Dr. Halstead's voice.

"Kelly?"

"Yeah."

"Everly's motor verbal response has improved significantly in the last two hours but we still have to monitor her closely to see how she progresses, but she's asking for you guys so I thought I'd let you know."

"That's great news Will."

"Will you let Matt and the others know?"

"I will, thanks."

"Yeah."

I hung up the phone and smiled.

"Ev is awake and talking. She's asking for everybody."
