I was sitting at the Squad table flipping through an old magazine when Kelly walked over to the table looking pissed. I put my magazine down on the table and looked at him as he sat down in his chair.

"Uh oh."

He shot me an angry look and I held up my hands.

"Your brother is really starting to get on my nerves."

I lifted my head and looked over at Matt who was standing by the truck. He seemed just as pissed as Kelly was. I furrowed my eyebrows before turning my head back towards Kelly.

"What's going on with you two lately?"

Kelly sat up in his chair and laid his hands down on the table in front of him.

"Squad doesn't vent okay?"

"Forget I asked."

I looked at Kelly once more before I picked up the magazine I had just put down and went back to reading it.

"Ev."

I looked up as I heard Shay say my name. She nodded over to who I assume was the new candidate before looking at him up and down and pointing at me. I shook my head no and she chuckled.

"Rescue Squad a-holes, they think they own that table."

Kelly turned around to look at Cruz while I put my head back down to read my magazine.

"There's a girl on Squad? I didn't know that."

"No that's Everly, she's our PIC on ambo. She's the only person allowed to sit at the Squad table that's not on Squad."

"Why's that?"

I looked up from my magazine for a brief moment to look at Cruz.

"I don't know, it's always been like that."

I nodded before I put my head down again and continued my reading. Otis bailed on the tour he was giving when the candidate showed up. I was half listening to the tour he was giving when I saw, out of the corner of my eye, my brother walk up and lean on the wall.

"Last to show, first to go ask the Rescue Squad."

Great. Not again.

"You truck guys do such a good job getting everything ready for us, why would we take that away from you?"

I chuckled at Kelly's response. Mills took the kids away and Kelly turned towards my brother.

"Bet I get a application from him by the end of the month."

Matt shrugged.

"If he wants you, you can have him."

Just as my brother turned around to walk away the bell went off.

"Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Battalion 25. Two vehicle accident, Louisville and Kent."

We all rushed over to our respective vehicles and jumped in. We all arrived at the scene pretty much at the same time and as soon as we got to the scene the guys started working away on the vehicles. I walked over to the car that had victims in it and saw a mother and daughter.

"My daughter she's hurt."

I nodded and went around to the other side of the car where the girl was sitting.

"Hey sweetie what's your name?"

I reached down and tugged on the door handle but it wasn't bugging.

"Madeline."
