Part I - Devotion

July 23

1:09 a.m. | Lana's Apartment Complex

Lana and I were both drowning in paperwork for entirely different reasons.

Lana was sitting on the coach, headphones on, papers strewn around her, huffing and puffing, crumbling pages every so often.

On the other hand, I was seated on her bed, preparing my Legal Analysis presentation.

As much as I'm passionate about legislation and making legal decisions. My life has been completely consumed with law school.

We spent the majority of our days hanging out in her apartment. Even when we were working, just being in the same room kept us motivated.

She'd come to me with ideas and played me some of her demos, and I'd read her my proposals to see how other people would react to them.

I give Lana a cursory glance as I write my Case Brief. She was tearing yet another piece of paper. I gently stood up and walked up behind her on the couch.

I wrap my arms around her shoulder, "How's it going babe?" I ask before planting kisses on her cheeks.

A soft sign leaves her lips as she takes her headphones off. "Terrible," she says. "I write one good idea, then come up with something completely different."

"And that's a bad thing?"

"Yeah, because if I don't work on one thing at a time, I'll end up with a bunch of unfinished ideas, you know?"

"Instead of crumbling up the fresh ideas you're having, why don't you jot them down separately and come back to them later?" I try making the situation better. "They're probably great ideas, and you're just throwing them away." I continue, walking around the couch to see her face.

"I guess, I'm just frustrated that I haven't finished this one yet, even though I've been working on it for a week and only have a chorus and a bridge." she says, handing me a piece of paper.

I take her computer off her lap and place it on the table before straddling her. "And that's completely fine, you don't want to rush through it, now do you?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"It'll come to you eventually, don't put pressure on yourself babe, you just need a break."

"Okay," she says with a smile, connecting our lips.

I skimmed through the paper and was struck by how rich every word was, and how beautifully it was written.

"This is going to be huge," I say, looking at her gently shying away.

Lana is never shy. Never.

"You think so?" she asks softly.

"I know so" I say with a smile. "Wait till the rest of the world hears this, they'll be screaming your name" I say cheerfully causing her to laugh.

"I only want one person screaming my name," she murmurs softly, our lips barely touching.

"Is that the best you've got?" I ask smirking.

"Not even close" she says before connecting our lips again holding my hips tightly.

1:43 a.m.

"Let's go out tomorrow night," I glance up at her and say. "God knows we're in desperate need of a break," I add, chuckling.

"Just us?"

"Just us," I repeat tenderly with a smile, my forehead resting on hers.

"Are you finally asking me out on a date?" Lana asks with a smirk.
