Part I/I - The Storm

I felt the loss of sleep as the sunlight flashed against my eyes. Cocooned with the warmth of the bedding, missing the one thing that made it warmer.

I run my hands against the sheets of her side of the bed, causing shivers to form on my skin. I momentarily contemplated returning to sleep's embrace before I hauled myself from beneath the covers.

Lana has been spending most nights at my place, and we'd go to work in the morning at different times. Not really realizing that we've been not-so-subtly living together. I loved ending my day with her in my arms, but I also wanted to wake up to her touch.

i can't get everything

My feet limply thudded to the floor, plodding across the cool tile, blinking sleep from my eyes as I walked into the steamy bathroom because Lana would always shower before she left. Not fully awake yet, my mind drifted aimlessly before my eyes fell upon the foggy mirror.

A smile formed on my lips as I read what was handwritten on the mirror.

meet me for lunch

11:19 p.m.

I had asked my assistant to book us a reservation as soon as I got into work. I was looking forward to going out to lunch with her. It was more of a lunch rendezvous than a lunch date, and I wasn't complaining.

"Hi," I say as I open her door, after greeting Trent.

"Hey," Lana says with a smile as we both rushed into my firm, before we greeted each other to avoid paparazzi.

"You look gorgeous," I say as soon as we walk in, leading to a spacious hallway.

She plants a kiss on my cheek before we make our way into the elevator and up to my office.

"Good evening," my assistant says from afar.

"Who's that?" Lana asks in a low voice as we walk straight and my assistant stood up from her seat with a smile.

"My new assistant," I say.

"You have a new assistant?" Lana murmured before we stood in front of her.

"Good evening Cara," I say with a smile before my eyes fall upon Lana who's staring at her in an unsettling manner. "Lana, this is Cara my new assistant. Cara... this is Lana. The only person who can come in without an appointment."

I reach for Lana's hand and look at her with a smile and her expression softened as she looked at me.

"Oh," Cara caught on and started to grow flustered, fumbling with the papers on her desk.

"I think she recognized you," I whisper into Lana's ear with a smile implying at her fame.

"As your girlfriend, I hope," Lana murmurs causing me to chuckle.

"I—uh— I'm sorry before you go. Mr. Ford was asking about the independent bar," she says nervously.

"I'll address everything at the board meeting. Make sure he's there," I say firmly.

"On it," she says as she takes a seat. "Can I get you anything?"

I look at Lana and she politely declines before we walk into my office and close the door behind us.

"Do all your assistants have to be pretty?" Lana asks, previously having an issue with Cleo.

"They don't have to be. They just happen to be," I say giving her an innocent smile but she doesn't look amused.
