Forbidden Love

My thoughts are lost. I don’t know what to do. My head’s dizzy of making decisions as my hands cold and trembling as it sweats. Should I carry him to the hospital? Can the doctors help him? He is a fairy, can he be helped with a human doctor?

Tears are starting to well from my eyes like rain drops on a summer day, as I hold Ali’s hand then suddenly, I think of Wave. He’s with Silim. Silim might definitely know the way to revive Ali.

I immediately snatch my phone I placed on the floor earlier and dial Wave’s number. Fortunately, he answers it right away.

“Wave, I have an emergency,” I almost choke in urgency. I force myself to enunciate the words properly so he can understand it. “C-can you please tell Silim to get back here in my a-apartment as soon as possible?”

“Okay, okay, Kyle,” he answers calmly. “Calm yourself down, okay? We’re already in our car. We’re on our way to you. Maybe we’ll get there in about half an hour.”

I take a deep breath before answering as I try to steady myself. But I know I just can’t. It’s Ali’s life on the line. Half an hour is still a long time. “H-half an hour is too much time, Wave.”

“I’ll tell Mr. Antonio to make his drive faster, Kyle. What’s the problem by the way?”

“Ali’s unconscious, Wave. . .” I try controlling the shake of crying in my voice. “H-he’s pale. . . He’s unconscious. . . I-I don’t know what to do. . .”

“I notice the same paleness with Silim, too. But it gotten better when we’re at my home.”

“Can I talk to Kyle, Wave?” I hear Silim.

“Hello, Kyle? I know a way that can help him for sure. . .” he says quite fast. “You need to bring him back in to the woods. I know you can’t wait for us. Can you drive him back there, Kyle? And please make sure he’s safe, okay?” I can sense anxiety in his tone. He’s even on the verge of crying, too.

The woods? It’s really because of the city that Ali got in danger. It’s all my fault. I’ve been dumb and ignorant.

“I will, Silim. I’ll drive us there right away. You can go directly there, too. Thank you, Silim. I’ll promise, he’ll be alright,” I then end the call.

It’s all my fault. I can’t help blaming myself because it’s true and right. I try to regain my control in breathing and lift Ali up but, he’s just a bit too heavy for me. I can’t do this alone. I can’t lift him up alone. I’m such a weakling.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door. “It’s a help!” I think. I can almost scream in joy as someone can finally help me.

I immediately run to the door and open it. I wasn’t really expecting for anyone but I’m more than glad it’s Selena. I hug her as soon as I see her and tell her my apology. A blessing in disguise? That surely is Selena. She replies with a sorry, too but I cut her off, explaining why I do, and tell her to follow me in my room.

There is anxiety carved in her face, too, as her eyes are quite down. I ask her to help me carry Ali all the way to my car and she did, without second thoughts. She’s more than eager in helping me. Like a real friend she is.

We are able to carry Ali at the back seat and Selena volunteers to join us so she can take care of Ali as I drive. I hug her again out of extreme gratitude. I just can’t help it.

“It’s the least that I could do, Kyle,” she says with a reassuring smile. “I can’t let you do this on your own. I’ll help you with the best that I can. And Ali, too.”

We start driving all the way back to the woods, where our old home is located, too. It’s naturally more than an hour drive but I increase the speed and we reach it in 45 minutes. Wave and Silim reach the place first and they wait for us before we continue walking to the woods.

“I knew this will happen but I didn’t warn Prince Ali. . .” Silim says in verge of crying. “This is all my fault. . .”

“No, Silim. . .” I respond. “It’s not you who’s to blame. . . It’s me. . . I ignored the signs. . . I let him stay in the city when I know it will be a danger for him. . . I’m the one to blame.”

“Stop it, both of you,” Selena scoffs. “Blaming won’t help us get through this. Let’s just focus on reaching where we should go and revive Ali back to consciousness . . . okay?”

“Ipil?” I hear Silim. Another man suddenly appears in front of us after the fireflies twirled. He’s a bit shorter than Silim and his face registers worry. His eyes then widens as soon as he sees Ali.

“W-what happened to Prince Ali, Silim? A-a-and, who are they? Are they humans?” he asks pretty quickly and turns to a firefly again.

“They’re our friends, Ipil. They can be trusted. Believe me. And we gotta bring Prince Ali back to Faria so he can be helped,” Silim cry.

The fairy Silim calls Ipil turns into his human form again and helps us carry Ali.

Finally, we reach the woods. I ignore the sweats and moderate soreness of my arm until we have to lay him on the grass.

“You can stop here, humans,” Ipil announces. “You are not allowed to cross over our kingdom.”

I look at Silim with pleading eyes but Silim replies to me with a smile. “I’ll come back here as quick as lightning to inform you about Prince Ali, Kyle.”

“No! No! I can’t just wait here!” I cry. “I have to be there for Ali! You can’t stop me!”

I then feel warm embraces wrapping me.

“Kyle, let them. Let’s just stay here. They know what they’re doing and they won’t let their Prince reach a critical situation, won’t they?” Selena says softly.

“And we will be in a more critical situation if we take more time debating,” Ipil scoffs. “I’m sorry, humans if I’m being too harsh. But the King will punish us if something very bad happens to Prince Ali. And maybe, he’ll punish all of you, too. He’s the only heir of the kingdom. Silim, let’s go.”

“Wait!” I yelp. I walk over to the lying body of Ali and kiss him on his lips. His lips are dry and purplish but the sweetness, the sensation I felt the first time I kissed him is still the same. “Promise me you’ll recover, Ali. Promise me, please. I love you.” Tears again pile up on my eyes. Of course Ali won’t answer. Why am I expecting he’ll respond? Damn you, Kyle!

A portal then appears in between the acacia trees and the three of them enter it—Ipil and Silim carrying Ali. Then the portal disappears along with them.

They leave us here. I kneel on the rough grasses, body seems to be weak, my hands covering my face to hide myself from crying. I sniff and sob, thinking about Ali. If. . . if I wasn’t selfish, if. . . if I did really love Ali, I should’ve seen this would happen. I knew he’s a fairy, I knew he’s a firefly, I knew he couldn’t survive the air in the city. I’m an extremely stupid person. My head’s good for nothing that is.

Warm hands shave my back softly and gently. “Ali’s coming back, Kyle. I believe it,” says Wave.
