Part II

Fireflies circulate and twirl around me vanishing me into thin air. Though I am physically invisible, I can still be able to see my surroundings vividly.

From this moment, I can't just hear the laughter of the kid, but I can as well see him close because he has already reached where I stood before I vanished.

The grasses are not tall, not spiky and not itchy, so it's ok for him to fall. His dog as well is chasing after the fireflies.

The kid, at last, catches one. He traps it in his small hands; amazed by the yellowish green light that it glows in the open spaces of his handtrap.

He moves his hands closer to his face and closes one of his eyes to take a peek at the firefly. He is smiling and is evidently in awe of what he's seeing. Magic. Mystery. Light. A prized possession of nature.

After a few glimpse of the firefly he has caught, I hear him say, "I'm sorry for trapping you, little star. You're free now. Byebye". Then, he opens his hands and sets the firefly free.

How cute does he get, calling the firefly, a little star? Such innocence.

Suddenly, my urge to be physically visible to the kid is succeeding to be a reality. I wanted this. For a long time that I only watch the kid play in this woods, will be a memory forever. Because, I twirled the fireflies again around me and voila! I appear a few feet in front of the kid and his dog.

As expected, he was surprised. So is the dog, but it didn't run into me to attack. No. The dog just stays there for seconds, then continues chasing after the fireflies.

I am standing still; smiling. I wanted to let the kid walk to me. And he did.

"Hello, sir. How did you do that?"

"The what? This?" And I show him my magic. I twirl the fireflies around me and I disappeared, then eventually reappear.

He is amazed. Like he is clapping and smiling and squealing at the same time.

"You're a great magician, sir. Can you teach me how to do that?" The kid asks.

I walk near him and ruffles his hair. That's when I see his face up close. Though a child, he already has a good, proportional face.

His eyes are tantalizing; doll eyes and are glistening because of the fireflies' glows. His nose bridge is high, and pointed; small enough to suit his face. His lips are pinkish and full, and he has bunny teeth. Additionally, his complexion is fair as horse radish and smooth as a marble.

"I'm sorry, little one but only beings like me could do that." I smile at him.

"But I am like you... " He sort of whined. "Only smaller." He seems to be dismayed.

I giggled at his cuteness.

"Awww... Don't be sad now, little one. Here... " I show him my fingers where the tips are glowing of differen colors from the inside: pink, yellow- green, orange, white and light blue.

"These are called... Fireflies." Then I sway my arms, stretching it to the fullest, letting the glows in my fingertips escape, and fireflies appeared of those named colors.

He repeated the word fireflies and I can hear the kid's amazement of the light show.

"Those are like fireworks, sir." He said still in awe. "Fireflies! Fireflies! I love fireflies!" He cheered.

I smirk at him. I can even notice that my eyes are smiling.

Minutes later, I started a conversation with him again.

"May I know your name, please, little one?"

He looks at me and smiles, "Hi, I'm Kyle Aster Monteredondo. Ten years old. And you are?" He asked me back.

Kyle Aster Monteredondo. Hmmm... I'll surely remember that.

"I'm Ali and I don't really know my age."

"You don't know your age, kuya Ali? But why?" He is curious. Charmingly curious.

"Because... I'm a fairy, little one. I'm the prince of fireflies." I answered without hesitation.

"You're a prince? You're a fairy?" He seems excited and he did a gesture in greeting royalties, "Your majesty." The he stands back straight again. "You're a fairy? I just know you're real... I told them fairies are real but they don't believe me."

I giggle at him. "We're real, alright... But wait, I have a favor, little one. Can you not, please, tell anyone about me? About us fairies?"

He hummed. "Why not?" He's curious again.

"Because... Because... My firefly friends want privacy." I reasoned.

"Oh, ok. Same with dad. He wants privay, too. So I go here to play with Coco." He looks at his dog.

So that is why he wanders in this woods.

"Coco? Your dog? Is he your friend, too?"

"Yes, kuya Ali." He answered enthusiastically. "He's my best friend. Well, except Wave that is. He's my best friend at school." He continued.

I hum while I nod at his statement. I suddenly thought about Kyle's parents. They must have been looking for him for some time now.

"Kyle? Shouldn't you be home by now?"

He was stunned. His eyes grow bigger.

"Oh yeahhh. It's almost dinner. Dad might get mad at me, again."

Then he called his dog, Coco.

"Thank you for the fireflies, kuya Ali. I'll be going home now. See you tomorrow. Byebye." He bid as he walks back home with Coco.

I smile at him, waving goodbye.

I let my fireflies guide his way back, to ensure that he'll go home safe and sound.

After my fireflies have returned, I vanished into thin air again and goes back home. Surely, I will go back home with a joyful heart of meeting a new friend; A new mortal friend.
