"Dad," I hear him mumble.
“Wave,” the man calls him.
“Hi, Dad.” Wave replies.
“Hello, Wave’s Dad,” I say as I give my best beaming smile again and show my hands for a shake.
He smiles back and shakes my hand.
“Going to your room with your friend now, Wave?” he asks.
“Yes, Dad and. . . I’m gonna tell you something,” Wave says calmly.
“Okay, I’m listening,” his dad responds.
“Can I discuss it at the living room?” Wave demands and his dad agree. I don’t know if I should join in with them because, maybe it’s their family time. I know I will just be a design between them.
“I’ll just wait here for you, Wave,” I say.
“No, no,” Wave responds. “Come.”
Oh. Am I part of the family now, Wave? It sort of gives me a glow.
We take a seat on their big couch-- big enough to fit at least five persons. Wave sits in between me and his Dad, yet there is at least two feet distance between them and a foot between us.
“So, what are you going to tell me, Wave?” his Dad asks as he smiles.
“Uhmm, I don’t if it’s the right time to say this but Silim’s not my friend,” Wave says. “He’s not just a friend.”
I’m stunned. I’m almost speechless again. I’m not his friend? Somehow, it stings my heart painfully. His dad is still smiling but is obviously confuse. The way Wave says I’m not his friend feels like there is no hint of hesitation. He’s kind of sure about what he said.
“Okay?” his Dad replies.
Wave turns to me and reaches for my hand and holds it. He looks at me and smirks. What are you doing, Wave? I can’t understand you.
“Silim’s my boyfriend, Dad,” he says as he returns his view to his Dad.
I’m more stunned than how I was when he said I am not his friend. My eyes dilated and I’m extremely elated that I could almost scream, squeal, yelp, and hug Wave.
He holds my hand even tighter as if saying to calm myself down. But I can’t, Wave. If my eyes and heart can literally glow, then these would be brighter than the sun. My heart’s racing, my breathing uncontrollable, my insides are trembling, I’m definitely overjoyed.
On the other hand, his Dad’s expression suddenly becomes blank.
“I know you didn’t expect this. I know you have your own plans for me, Dad but, I can’t ignore what my heart wants. And it’s screaming for Silim, Dad,” he says, still calm as a stagnant water.
Awww, Wave. Don’t make me yearn for you more.
“It’s okay if you won’t accept it, Dad. Nothing will keep me away from, Silim,” he adds.
“No, no. . .” his Dad somehow comes back into his senses. “Why would you think I’ll keep you away from Silim, Wave?” his Dad continues.
Wave keeps a straight face for a moment but he gives a small smile afterwards.
His Dad props himself again to have a better sitting posture. “I have noticed changes in you, Wave. Unlike before, I now see you smile more often. . . which I haven’t seen for years. And if he makes you happy, who am I to take that away from you?”
His Dad reaches for Wave’s hands. I let go of his hand that’s holding mine and now, both of his hands are in the hold of his Dad.
“We have already grieved for your mother’s death, Wave and I have never been in touch with you for long. I’m sorry. I know I have only apologized today when I should have done for the past years. I’ve seen you in your saddest times, Wave but I was indulged in my own drama. I have forgotten I have another part of my life. So whatever you choose, whoever you choose to love, I will support you, Wave. You and Silim. I will be the happiest father if I know that you will follow what your heart desires,” his Dad adds. I see his eyes are glistening. I feel his words come straight from his heart and hits through Wave’s heart straight, too.
“Thank you, Dad,” Wave says as he hugs his Dad. Now, I hear a sniff from Wave. He must be in tears. Well, I do remember that Wave told me about his situation with his Dad. They weren’t that good in terms of closeness and interaction but it’s good to see them happy with each other’s presence, and his Dad supporting him and me.
“You don’t need to thank me, Wave,” his Dad says. “That’s what I should do. To support you. To support what will make you happy. To be with you. I love you, Wave.”
“I love you more, Dad,” Wave replies.
Then they separated and Wave turns to me. He indeed did cry. He’s still cute though. He smiles at me, I smile back and I put him in my embrace.
“I love you, Wave,” I say.
He is silent for a moment. He’s probably stunned that I hug him without asking for his permission.
“I love you, too, Silim,” he responds. That makes me hug him even tighter.
“You two, love birds,” his Dad says. I look at him and shyness hits me. I let go of Wave and we return sitting properly. His Dad giggles.
“I didn’t mean to startle you,” his Dad says.
I keep a bashful smile as he continues, “Silim,” I try to look at him straight to his eyes. “I don’t know you yet that much but I believe that I can trust you with my son. You give a different effect to my son and that I believe that you’re a good influence to him. Please, please, love my son as much as you can. Take care of him. Never hurt him. He’s the most precious thing to me and I’ll hate you when you hurt him, okay?"
“I promise I’ll love him more than I love myself, Wave’s Dad,” I say confidently. “And I promise I’ll take care of him and I will definitely never hurt him. I love him more than anything that I could never make him sad,” I continue.
Our conversation continues from Wave’s Dad telling me to call him Dad, too. Pretty much like how Kyle’s Dad wanted Prince Ali to call him. Then Dad wanted to know me more, he asks Wave everything about him so he would be updated about the whatabouts of his son, and about us. I have a very good time with them. Wave somehow is talking more now compared to how much he talks we’re in the city. He’s still a bit serious, too, but in a cute way. Somehow, it feels like I have been a part of their family for a long time. They really make me feel as one of them. I can also see Dad’s effort of amending the lost times they had together. Actually, I want to live here. Of course, if I can invite Prince Ali and Kyle here, too, then I would so we’ll be together.
