John Teller
~
I sat on the couch in our cabin. Big bear was a great place to vacation. If you could get away from the club business. I sat with my arm extended out, my hand laid over Gemma's round belly. "Can we get out of the cabin John? I hate sitting here doing nothing." She pouted. "Sweetheart, the doctors already said-" I started to speak but she cut me off  "no heavy exercise. I know, I just hate being so constricted" she groaned. "I know sweetheart, but once this little girl jumps out you'll be up and running circles around her in no time." I winked, she scoffed. "Yeah, that's easy for you to say." She argued. "You're not the one carrying a damn car in your stomach." She sighed as she sat back, resting. "Jax, baby, why don't you go in the room and play while me and daddy talk." She said to our son who was on the floor in front of the couch playing with a toy truck. I could sense the underlying tone in her voice, it made me sick to my stomach. I knew we wouldn't be "talking" since it was always an argument with us. I sighed as he started to walk to the hallway, "hey superman, can I at least get a hug?" I asked as I knelt down and opened my arms, he stood still for a moment, thinking. This boy would be the death of me, and if this girl is anything like him, my grave can pull me 6 feet deep now. I laughed as he came barreling towards me, almost knocking me over with how quickly he threw himself into me. "Daddy loves you son. You always remember that." I said, his head laid into my shoulder, while I glared up at Gemma who was now standing to the left of us. She narrowed her eyes at me, now silently arguing. Jax pulled away from me as he ran away with the toy truck, making it fly. I laughed to myself at the small blonde. "Let's go." She said as she flew open the door. "No Gem, you're heavily pregnant with our daughter, in case you have forgotten." I stated. "You're no fun." She replied defensively, "protective." I corrected. "Fuck it." She said as she ran outside. "Gemma! Wait!" I yelled as I quickly threw on my shoes, and ran out after her. I could hear her yelling happily as she made her way down to the lake. "Gemma! Honey! Get back inside!" I protested for our daughter's safety. I muttered to myself as I ran after her. She had wrapped her arms around my neck, at the dock of the lake. We were right at the edge. "It's freezing gem." I stated. "It's like a movie scene." She said quietly, she started at the moon as it glimmered against the darkness of the water. I felt a sense of dread wash over me. "We should head back inside, it's not good for you." I said, holding her hand and trying to pull her back towards the cabin. "John." She said, pulling me back. "Please." I asked, knowing that the temperature change isn't good for pregnancies. I huffed as I started to walk away from her but before I could make it off of the dock a hooded figure had walked onto the entrance of the dock, they held up a gun, I was halfway between them, and my wife who was carrying our only daughter. "Gemma!" I yelled as I ran back towards her in a hurry, then I heard a pop, and felt pain. I grunted out as I was laid on the dock, the pain was unbearable. "Now what?" Gemma asked, as the figure walked up and stared down at me. I stared up at them, the figure had taken their hood off. "Clay." I spat in anger. He smirked down at me. He crouched down, we stared at each other, he then spat in my face. I cringed at the impact. "Drag him into the water. The temperature should kill him off pretty quickly." Gemma said. "No. No!" I yelled as I tried to struggle but the pain had since ignited from my back and washed into my entire body causing my muscles to tighten in pain. "Gemma, please!" I choked out. "You don't want to do this." I swallowed quickly, "trust me." I breathed. Clay had stopped dragging me, briefly. We both stared at her. She sighed, closing her eyes for a moment. Thinking. "Do it." She snapped. He quickly dragged me further. "NO!" I yelled, drag. "NO!" I yelled but before I could get another word out, I was dragged off, plunging down into the deep freeze of the dark ice below me.

The cold was a sensation that I could describe as billions of needles pricking me endlessly. The water was too dark to see anything, I couldn't swim to the surface, the bullet lodged in my back, sending shooting pains through my muscle's every time I tried to move. I was surely dead. I knew it, they knew. That was when the calmness washed over me, the darkness had enveloped me, the comforting depths of the lake had overwhelmed me with the invite. I had foolishly used up the last set of air bubbles I had. My mind was at peace. I closed my eyes, embracing the end.
