A/N: This whole chapter will be from Steve's POV. There are several things in this chapter that are not included in the original story but I think you will like them anyway.
"Alia seems to be doing well," Nat said as we made our way to the Triskelion. I nodded.
"She's been doing a lot better. Her nightmares have gotten better too. I don't think she has had one in almost a year," I said. She had been journaling a lot lately. I had tried to convince Alia to go and see someone to help her through the issues about what Hydra had done. About a year after we had started dating, she finally opened up and told me about the few months that she had been held captive by HYDRA. After hearing what they had done, I wasn't surprised why she had kept it from not just me, but from almost everyone. It was disgusting, and just thinking about it, infuriated me, and it takes a lot to upset me like that.
"So, I'm not entirely sure about this mission, but I do know, we are working with the STRIKE team on this one," Nat was saying.
"Sounds like a plan. I need to make a visit to Phil before we go though. There's something I need to talk to him about," I commented, trying to sound casual. Like always, being casual with Nat is almost impossible.
"Talk about what?" she asked. I sighed.
"Are you always this nosy, Romanoff?" I asked playfully. She didn't laugh but gave me a look. "Alright, I'll tell you but you can't tell Alia. I might as well tell you, I'm going to need your help anyway."
"Oh boy, I think I know where this is going," Nat cried sounding excited.
"I want to ask Alia to marry me," I finally managed to say. I hadn't said it out loud yet, it had only ever been in my mind. Nat squealed slightly, fidgeting in her seat.
"Oh Steve! Oh I'm so excited for you guys! How long have you had this in your head?" she asked.
"Honestly, I think since we were on the helicarrier for the first time, when she gave me that tour before the battle in New York. I remember thinking to myself that she was either going to be the death of me or my wife," I said smiling, remembering that day. She was so amazing and welcoming to me. She always had been and I loved the hell out of this woman.
"Oh Stevie, that's adorable!" Nat cried, pretending to wipe a tear from her eye. I rolled my eyes.
"Ok don't call me Stevie. I'm serious about needing your help though. There is so much I need to plan. I want it to be perfect," I sighed. She stopped at a red light and looked over at me.
"I will do everything I can to make this perfect for you both. And don't be nervous about what she or Coulson are going to say. I have no doubts that either of them will say yes," she said, taking off again as the light turned green.
"I hope so," I muttered.

After our meeting about the mission which would be leaving in two hours, I headed towards Coulson's office. Even with Nat's advice about not being nervous, my stomach was in knots. I had always been old fashioned, having grown up in the beginning of the 20th century, it was ingrained in my brain. My mother would have been ashamed if I didn't ask Phil's permission to marry Alia. I stopped at Phil's office door and took a deep breath. I ran my hand through my hair and lifted my other hand to knock on the door.
"Come in," I heard his voice say from the other side. Taking one last deep breath, I opened the door. Phil was seated at his desk, reading something in a file. He looked up and instantly his frustrated expression became one of relief and excitement. He stood up throwing the file into a drawer.
