Snowdrift was hunting. There was a polar bear and her cubs, who were almost fully grown fishing. Snowdrift was currently flying, watching the cubs splash. She twisted into a dive and picked up the adult polar bear, who was dead within seconds due to her frostscales. Then she lunged after the cubs. The cubs ran and made it into their den, which was too small for Snowdrift to fit into. Snowdrift hissed in frustration. She waited for Silvermoon to come find her and pick up the polar bear she caught. Silvermoon found her and landed by her. Snowdrift folded in her wings and curved in her tail to make sure she didn't accidently touch her mother. Silvermoon picked up the polar bear and the walrus she caught.
When they reached the palace, they set their prey down on a table then headed to her room. There was the usual guard that guarded her room. He moved out of the way and opened the door for her. There was no jewelry in her room like usual princesses had because they would freeze to her scales. Snowdrift remembered that awful time when she put on a sapphire necklace, they had to have a Sandwing come in heat the necklace off so that they could take it off. Another Icewing walked into her room, "Supper is going to be ready in 5 minutes, Princess Snowdrift," he announced. "Okay," Snowdrift replied. "There will be some guests from the other tribes, so Queen Silvermoon wants you to take extra precautions," he said. Snowdrift sighed; she knew what that meant.
Snowdrift walked into the eating room. She found her chair. It was the one at the edge of the room two dragon-lengths away from the actual table. Snowdrift sighed. She ate her dinner and waited for the other dragons to be done with their food. "The Leafwings need more territory, more and more dragonets are being born each day, and we need more food. So, we're wondering if you would give us the warmer strip of your territory," The Leafwing queen, Queen Blossom said. The Silkwing queen glared at Queen Crimson."We need more territory too," Crimson declares. "I will donate some of our territory to Queen Blossom, but we don't have enough for the Skywings," said Queen Silvermoon. "WHAT?!" Snowdrift roared. "We already gave half of that territory away to the Hivewings, and were growing too!" Snowdrift basically yelled. "Go to your room this instance!" Queen Silvermoon snapped. "You really should teach your daughter some manners," Queen Cicada of the Hivewings said. Snowdrift blew a bit of frostbreath above Hornets head and then stormed out of the room towards her room.
Snowdrift layed on the ground of her room. She heard wingbeats flying away from the castle from the eating room. Then she heard talons walking towards her room. Her mother opened the door and walked in the room. "You should know better than that and blowing frostbreath at Queen Hornets head!" Silvermoon said. "Well, you're giving away all of our territory!" Snowdrift said. "Yeah, and your grounded, no hunting or anything for you. Just stay in your room, your supper will be brought to you," Silvermoon said. Silvermoon walked out of the room and she heard her spray some frostbreath on the edge of the door to keep her locked in.
Snowdrift looked out the window of her room. Well, what am I supposed to do in here, there is literally nothing I can do except hunt she thought. She thought about running away. Should I run away? Would mother be mad? Probably. I heard mother talking about a place called Jade Mountain Academy where you can meet dragonets of other tribes. Okay, she thought. Let's run away, mother wouldn't care if she treats me like this. She tried wiggling through the window, but it was too small. She ran at the window when she hit it shards of ice broke off. She ran at the window a few more times. Finally, she was able to break through. She flapped her wings and soared through the sky. Which direction should I go? she thought. She chose the direction that led away from the ocean. She flew for about half the day only to fly over the ocean again. She sighed. Alright then I guess I'll stay on the edge of the land until I get out of the Ice Kingdom. She flew the rest of the day and then had to stop to sleep. She found a large old cave.
She dreamed. She was at the Ice Palace again. Mother was walking into her empty room. The guard opened the door and Silvermoon walked in, only for it to be completely empty. "Did you let her escape?" she roared at the guard. "N-no," said the frightened guard. "Then, where is she?" she roared. "I-I don't know," said the guard. She looked in the room and saw the broken window.
Snowdrift woke up and hunted. She caught a walrus and ate it. She continued flying, when a qibli blew into her face. She shivered. Then she thought, that means I'm at the edge of the Ice Kingdom!
