Falcon ran after Snowdrift. The queen? What's wrong with the queen? He wondered. They sprinted out of the cave and into the queens room. The queen was lying on some seal skins, panting. Snowdrift ran up to her. Snowdrift abruptly stopped a dragon heads worth away from the queen. "Snowdrift, dear," The queen said shakily. "I'm dying, my food was poisoned several months ago and I have been dying slowly," She said. "Why didn't you tell me? W-we could have found a cure," Snowdrift said. Snowdrifts mother groaned in pain. "It was too late," mother hoarsely whispered. Mother is dying, the thought ran through her head over and over again. Then a new thought ran through her head when-when she dies I'll have to take her place... "Trust the Opal for they are the keepers of Ice ans Stars..." Her mother took a shuddering breath and then went still. "Mother!" She shrieked.
Later that day they did the ceremony for her. They covered her in mint flowers. The Icewings said there final goodbye and Snowdrift and the royal family buried her. They had a dragon carve a memorial stone to put by her grave. Her aunt came up to her. "We will have to plan your coronation, the Icewings can't be queenless for long," Said Bermal. Snowdrift sighed. "I don't think I can handle it. She died so recently," Snowdrift said. "I understand. It is sad to see her go so soon," Bermal said. "I will find her killer and they will suffer just like she did," Snowdrift growled. Bermal nodded. Snowdrift headed for her cave. It didn't seem right to sleep in mother's cave yet. She layed down and put her head under her talons. "Mother, I miss you," She whispered. Falcon walked in. She looked up at him. "Are you all right?" He asked. Snowdrift ignores him. She put her head back under her talons. "Okay, if you don't want to talk I will leave you alone. I understand it was like that when my mother died," He sighed. Then he walked out of the cave. He lost his mother? Snowdrift knew she should start planning her coronation, but she missed her mother too much. She sighed. Maybe Bermal could plan my coronation, she thought. She got up and went to visit Silvermoon's grave.
At her mothers grave she layed down next to the stone marking it. "Oh mother, I wish you didn't have to go so soon. I don't think I'm ready to rule the Icewings," She whispered. She rested her head on the snowy ground. It's been a long day, she thought. She fell asleep there for a while. When she woke up again she went to talk to Bermal.
She found Whitewater in the eating cave. "Bermal, I was wondering if you could plan my coronation?" Snowdrift asked. Bermal turned toward her. "Yes, of course," She nodded. Bermal started mumbling to herself. Snowdrift left the cave. I better go apologize to Falcon, she thought.
She found Falcon in her room laying in the back corner. He didn't lift his head when she walked in. She walked up to him and layed next to him and pressed her body against his. He didn't move. "Fine, I guess that's fair. I don't talk to you, you don't talk to me," Snowdrift sighed. They layed next to each other for a while. Snowdrift got up and padded out of the den. She looked over her shoulder. Falcon was still laying there.
The next day I try to talk to him again, no luck.
Same with the next day.
And the next.
The day after that she tried again. This time he lifted his head and looked at her, but didn't talk. "Fine, I give up." Snowdrift said. She walked out of the den. She went to find Bermal. She found her in the throne cave. "How's planning the coronation going?" Snowdrift asked. "It's going good, I am almost done." Bermal said. "Good," Snowdrift said. She walked out of the room.
The coronation was a small one. They had the Icewing animus make a crown that she could actually wear. She looked around and spotted Falcon sitting in the crowd of Icewings.
After the coronation Falcon walked up to her. "Congratsulations, Queen Snowdrift!" He said and bowed. Snowdrift smiled. "Thanks. But just call me Snowdrift," She replied.
A thought came to Snowdrift. Mother was poisoned, by who? She wondered. She made a list of possibilities in her head. Several months ago. Several months ago was the yearly queen meeting, could it have been one of them? She wondered. She added the queens and servants that were there that night. Okay, and who holds a grudge against mother/Icewings? Crimson. It could be Blossom since she needs more land and is one of the closest tribes. She added the names to a new list. Well, it was most likely a dragon from another tribe. She decided. She went through the list but couldn't think of any other suspects. Now I need to find evidence, but how? It was months ago she wondered. I have to go back to the Old Ice Kingdom.
