They circle each other for the first few minutes. But unexpectedly Crimson lunges her claws rake his scales. I hiss, not used to pain in that way. I look at the scratch to see green swirling with red blood. Poison, ensuring her success. I've got to finish this. I'm already a little woozy and the wound, and the area around the wound burns. I loose my balance and fall over. Crimson lunges on me, pinning me to the ground. Her poison tipped claws dig into my shoulders, making me wince. I start to see two of Crimson.
She starts making my death slow and painful. She rakes her claws across my throat, not in a way that could immediately kill me, then she rakes them across my chest, then my stomach and my legs, making this as slow and painful as can be. My talons and tail start going numb, probably effects from the poison. If I'm gonna win I have to kill her now, somehow.
I expose my neck, inviting her. Long, sharp teeth start bending towards my neck. Darkness gathers at the edge of my vision. Now! I snap my jaws around Crimsons throat, or at least hopefully the right Crimson. She lets out a gasp and I squeeze as hard as my numbing jaws can. She starts to wheeze and then she goes limp but I keep holding on. I start blinking the overwhelming darkness away.
"I present the winner, your new king Falcon!"
I groan and everything goes dark.
Snowdrift lunges into the sandy area and runs up to Falcon. Healers start coming in too. They lift him up and drag him into the hospital area of the castle which, of course, was nearby. They tell me to stay in the waiting room and ShiftingSky does the same. My talon starts tapping the ground, I'm just so nervous! I imagine him, all scratched up with green poison bubbling out of the wounds and burning his skin. I erase the image and pull up a new image, me and him ruling over the Skywings and Icewings together in peace. Peace, for once. My talons stop tapping the ground and I hold and memorize that image.
A few hours later the healers call us in. My eyes are drooping from tiredness. I stumble into the room. I walk/stumble over to Falcon, who is covered in cuts that are probably going to scar. The news is probably already spreading over Pyrriha. I almost grab his talon but remember that he doesn't have his firescales. I look at myself in the reflective opal ring. I'm a mess, there are dark circles under my eyes and my face seems to droop. I need to get some proper sleep. Yeah, me and Falcon will sleep together, definitely not worrying about a vengeful Skywing assassin murdering us in our sleep.
Falcon's eyes flutter open. Wow, that cure must work fast. "What happened?" He asks. "You defeated Crimson!" I exclaim. He smiles. "Yes, the cure from the poison worked oddly fast, what did you use?" I ask the healer. "An animus," He says and walks away. "The Skywings have an animus?" I say. Falcon nods. "How long have I been out?" Falcon asks. "Just through the night, I reply. "Cool, it's my hatch day, I'm officially eight," He says. "Well, happy hatch day!" I say. He smiles. "Thanks," he replies. He yawns. "Get some sleep," I tell him and get up to go. "No, sleep here with me," he moans. I smile and walk back over to him. "So, uncomfortable, the bed is just so squishy," he complains. "Take off your ring and sleep down here with me." I reason. He rolls off the thick pile of skins and onto the floor, once out of reach of the skins, he slips the ring off. I cuddle up next to him and we go to sleep.
