Chapter 37:

[Mikey's POV]

We heard sirens coming near the abandoned junkyard. Everybody started panicking.

"Okay break it up! Let's go! The cops are here!" One of the Haitani brothers announced to everyone.

"Ken-chin, how's Aka-chin?" I asked Ken-chin who was holding Akaza in his arms. 

Did she die too?

"She's still breathing, we have to take her to the hospital before it's too late!!" Ken-chin told me.

"Leave her here, the paramedics will arrive soon," Kazutora said as he was standing up. "I'll stay with her and Baji until they arrive, you guys go on"

"I'm not leaving her with you!" I told him.

"I want to take responsibility," Kazutora said. I was hesitant at first but if we were the ones to take her to the hospital, her condition might worsen, 

"I'll stay too," I told them.

"I won't hurt her," Kazutora said "She won't die, Mikey, trust me"

"Got it," I said as I walked towards Aka-chin. "Aka-chin, don't leave me okay? Don't give up just yet" I told her as I tucked her loose hair behind her ear. 

"Mikey, I won't ask you to forgive me, I'll live my whole life with Shinichiro-kun and Baji's death on my shoulders, I'll forever regret how I hurt Akaza. I'm sorry" Kazutora said as he bowed down to apologize.

[Akaza's POV]

"Am I dead yet?" I mumbled as I regained consciousness. Or so I think I did, I can't really tell what is real and not anymore.

"Aka-chan" I heard Kazutora say. "I'm so sorry!" He said as he started crying.

"Kazutora?" I asked, I wasn't really sure anymore. "I guess I'm not dead yet," I said chuckling.

I guess I went blind.

"Don't say that like it's a bad thing!" He told me.

"I saw Shinichiro-kun, he told me not to leave Mikey or he'll get really sad," I told him as I started tearing up, "I wanted to kill you too, I wanted the worst for you but Shinichiro wouldn't want that. Growing up Shinichiro always told me to forgive, and I've decided to do that"

"Huh?" Kazutora asked confused.

"I forgive you, Kazutora" I told him. "And I'm sure Mikey, Shinichiro-kun, and Keisuke will forgive you too" I heard a swarm of people arriving at where we were. I wasn't really sure what was happening. 

"Miss, can you move?" I heard an unknown voice ask me, I'm guessing they were the paramedics.

...

"The doctor said they could repair my vision once I undergo surgery," I told Draken and Emma, who visited me.

"You look cool with that bandage around your eyes," Emma told me, chuckling "You look like a video game character!" I couldn't help but chuckle as well. I appreciate that she's trying to make me feel better.

I don't know how many days has it been since the fight against Valhalla. Mikey hasn't dropped by since I got admitted to the hospital. Only Draken, Emma, Mitsuya, and Ryuuji have visited me since.

"You're getting your surgery this afternoon, how are you feeling?" Draken asked me. 

"In pain," I said laughing, "The doctor said I have 2 broken ribs. Hanma bodyslams like a bitch" 

"You took out 40 Valhalla members during the fight, not bad for a girl" Draken praised. This was the first time he actually praised me.

"So when will Mikey visit me?" I asked lowly, I miss Mikey and I'm kind of upset he hasn't visited me at all.

"Time to get ready for surgery," A nurse said coming to my room.

"I'll see you after your operation," Draken said patting me in the head, I heard the door close a few moments later.

"Maybe he doesn't care about me anymore" I mumbled to myself, feeling really sad about the whole thing.

Where's the nurse?

"Who says I haven't been visiting?" I heard Mikey's voice say to me. Mikey was here the whole time? "I haven't left the hospital since you've been admitted"

"Mikey" I was surprised, at the same time I was about to cry. "If you've been here this whole time, why didn't you talk to me!" I whined childishly as I started to cry "I was so lonely"

"Because I failed, I failed to protect you like I promised," He told me. "I couldn't stand seeing you in this state"

"As I woke up from getting hit in the head, I actually thought I died." I told him "I was so scared when I realized I couldn't see anything. The darkness scared me. I thought to myself, I should have just died."

I was so scared of being consumed by darkness that I ended up just seeing darkness. These past few days have been the scariest time of my life.

"I didn't even get to see Baji when he died!" I said sobbing. it was just like when Shinichiro died.

 Mikey didn't say anything, the next thing I knew I felt Mikey's lips on mine. Sano Manjiro kissed me for the 3rd time!

"I'm happy you're still here, I don't know what I'll do if I lose you too," Mikey said as he pulled away from the kiss. 

"Times up, Manjiro-kun" I heard the nurse say coming back inside the room "Time for her to get ready for her operation"

"Sorry for stalling, Nanaba-san" Mikey told the nurse. "I'll see you after your operation," Mikey said to me as he kissed me on the top of my head then left the room.

Was I dreaming? Did Mikey just kiss me again?!

"Manjiro is such a sweet boy," The nurse said as she was helping me get ready for my operation. 

I was speechless. I was completely flustered! My heart was racing and I could feel my cheeks heat up.

"Oh, you're heart is beating faster than normal" The nurse said as she pointed her stethoscope on my chest to listen to my heartbeat "Are you okay?"

"Nanaba-san, I think I'm in love" I told her, she let out a small chuckle realizing what the reason for my racing heartbeat was.
