Am I dreaming? Mikey is really standing right in front of me. Just when I was ready to let him go, he's right in front of me. I did not expect to see him at all anymore.

"Mikey, you're still here," I said almost in tears. A vision suddenly appeared in my head, it was Mikey standing on the edge of the rooftop of this building, he smiled then jumped off.

He's going to kill himself?!

"Is it true that you left because you wanted to protect everyone?" I asked him, "If that's the case you got what you wanted, everyone is doing great. Now it's my turn to save you, let's go home, everyone is waiting for you"

I then heard a loud noise and felt a piercing pain in my chest. Mikey shot me twice somewhere in my chest. I don't know, after the piercing pain, I couldn't feel anything anymore.

"Akaza, I told you the next time we'd meet I'll kill you," Mikey told me, "I don't need saving,"

I fell on the floor and started coughing out a lot of blood, like a lot.

But even though I got shot, even though I'm probably gonna die soon. I looked Mikey straight in the eyes, he just stared at me but this time his empty eyes were now full of sadness.

Mikey then knelt down beside me and wrapped his arms around me.

"Manjiro" I mumbled weakly, "You must have been lonely all these years,"

"I'll be with you soon, Aka-chin" Mikey said as he hugged me tighter in his arms.

As I was about to lose consciousness, the last thing that flashed in my mind was Mikey when we were still kids, smiling.

The smile I wanted to protect but failed to do so. Will it have been better for Mikey if I wasn't part of his life from the start? Will that change anything?

I wish I could go back in time.

"Boss, Hanagaki is downstairs" I heard a familiar voice say, it sounded like Sanzu.
