Black hearted angels sunk me
With kisses on my mouth
There's poison in this water
The words are falling out
This air is getting so thin
Go down, go down, go down
The honey whiskey's kickin'
Go down, go down
I think I better go before I try something I might regret
I might regret

Song: Honey Whiskey, by Nothing But Thieves

The moment Luke walks away, I'm violently pulled back to the reality of what I was about to do.

Would I really let him kiss me?

I definitely want to, but doing something like that would just complicate things even more. I mean, not only a week ago I was kissing one of his best friends, and though we're separated, I'm technically still married.

What the fuck is going on with me?

I swear, I'm not usually this... Promiscuous. I mean, yeah, it's just a kiss, but hello! What sense does it make, to make out with two different guys in a week's interval, then cry my eyes out and barely manage to function properly during the other days, still mourning the end of the one relationship that matters to me?

At the same time, there's this tiny voice - that sounds incredibly like Sadie, by the way - in the back of my head, insisting that this is the new experience I should be trying out in order to find inspiration for my new book.

Don't know if she's right, or if she's just horny.

Maybe a little bit of both.

"Birds, I'm so sorry." Luke's voice pulls me out of my rambling mind. "The guys decided to stay and have a drink downstairs."

"Oh, it's no problem." I give him a tight-lipped smile, part of me feeling a bit relieved that we were interrupted. "Wanna go there and join them? I can go."

He frowns, a shadow of disappointment passing through his hazel eyes, but he quickly blinks it away, shaking his head.

"Well, we can join them, but I really wish you would stay." He smiles. "I wasn't lying when I said I want to get to know you better."

I look down at my clothes - better yet, his clothes that I'm borrowing. "I'm not dressed for a nightclub."

"Your clothes don't matter, we're in like 5 people. Just friends, hanging out. You don't even need to put on shoes." He assures me.

"I can't put on my shoes, they're drenched." I point out with a smile.

"You could wear mine, but it would be comically large on you." He chuckles. "Seriously, Birds, you look amazing anyways."

"Yeah, this is such a good fit for me." I roll my eyes sarcastically, pulling the tight fabric around my hips and letting it snap back to place.

"You can't blame a guy for liking the way you look in his clothes." He shrugs dismissively, going to the front door and using the silver button to unlock it. "Shall we?"

I nod, quickly walking past him and down the stairs. As we get back to the sumptuous entry hall from before, Luke rests his hand on the small of my back, softly driving me through a different corridor I didn't notice before, under the stairs. It's dimly lit by a warm light that reminds me of candles, but it's electric, which only adds to the eerie vibe of this place.

Though it's a beautiful place, I don't know if I would be able to actually live here; it's kinda creepy, to be honest. Looks like the perfect place to shoot a horror movie.

There's another door with an electronic lock at the end of the corridor, and after using his index finger to clear our entrance, Luke opens the door, stepping aside for me to cross the threshold first, and I do it somewhat hesitantly. I don't know why I'm so fucking nervous, but the truth is, my heart is pounding against my chest like a bird trying to escape its cage.
