"Hey, is everything okay?" I ask, my voice a little bouncier than I expected.
"Yeah, why?" Kim asks, looking away.
"You seem a little off tonight," I tell her, frowning, holding her arm firmly. "I feel like you're angry at me or something."
We're back at the VIP lounge, hanging out at the space Luke reserved for his friends. Josh's band finished playing their set about 20 minutes ago, and we're all drinking and talking here ever since. Josh is all over me tonight, which is so fucking unexpected as it is kinda funny. I mean, he was my first boyfriend. We used to date when I was 16.
To be completely honest, I'm not at all interested in him, not like this anyways, but it's nice to have my ego massaged like this.
Especially when Harry hasn't even come back from Luke's flat yet.
Kim sighs, rolling her eyes. She's quite drunk herself. "I'm not angry," she says matter-of-factly, turning her gaze to a point over my shoulder. "Not at you, anyway."
"At who, then?" I cran my neck back, looking at the same point she's gazing at. All I see is Sadie laughing out loud, holding a bottle of beer in one hand, the other one resting on TJ's shoulder.
Oh. Right.
"Sadie?" I turn my attention back to Kim. "Are you mad at Sadie?"
"N-No," Kim looks away, biting down her bottom lip, her legs vacillating a little as she takes a step back.
"You are," I say, point-blank. "You think she might steal TJ from you."
"No, of course not," Kim huffs, and to my surprise, her eyes actually sparkle with tears. "He would have to be mine in order to be stolen, and that's something he's not."
"Oh, no, no, no, don't cry," I mewl, my voice going way more high-pitched than it would normally, if I wasn't intoxicated the way I am. I wrap my arm around Kim's shoulders, pulling her closer to me. "Have you tried telling him how you feel?" I ask.
Kim shakes her head, taking a deep breath and blinking the tears away, "no, and I don't intend to. He clearly doesn't care about me the same, and I don't want to fuck up our friendship."
"You know, I think he feels the same," I tell her honestly. "Luke and Harry think so too."
"You're all wrong," Kim rolls her eyes. "I might not have said that, but I tried, you know... Showing him, giving all the signs, but he didn't try anything. He is clearly not interested. Have you ever seen him talking to me the way he talks to her?" She jerks her chin towards Sadie and TJ, and I look at them just in time to see him leaning down to whisper something in her ear, one of his hands holding her wrist firmly, the other one resting on the small of her back.
My stomach churns in empathy for Kim. I know exactly how she might be feeling.
"Well, fuck him," I tell her, lifting my free hand to hold her jaw, turning her face to look at me. "He's an idiot, and he's the one who is losing. I'll go there right now and tell Sadie to blow him off."
Kim shakes her head, but I don't miss the way her lips curl up to a tiny smile, "no, don't do that."
"Yep, I'm doing that, just watch me," I blow her a kiss, letting go of her face and walking away, towards the other group of people, before she can talk me off of my new life mission.
