During the ride Xamani's eyes stayed glued to the window. The last time she saw outside of Happy Hill Orphanage was seven years ago, so she couldn't help being intrigued by the hazy blur of buildings they sped by, or all the traffic lights they stopped at.

Then there was the highway which seemed to go on forever. She never rode on one, or at least that's what she thinks. The road was much smoother here and it brought back a memory.

Two police officers dragged her out of her previous home as she kicked and screamed, they threw her into the back of a white van and she could remember one of them snarling at her before slamming the doors shut, leaving her in complete darkness.

During the ride she cried her eyes out, scared of where they could be taking her. She knew it was a place for kids like her. Kids who did bad things and were disobedient.

Her small body bounced as they drove over bumps and dips in the ragged road, resulting in her having to grip the edges of the seat to stop from flying off due to no seat belts. Her grip loosened after a while though, when the van drove on a steady road. Just like right now.

Xamani's stomach growls and that's when she realizes she hadn't eaten before she and Cherish left. She groans. "Bruh, where we goin'? I ain't get ta eat and I ain't doin' nothin' until I put some on ma stomach." She looks out of the window just in time to see a snippet of the lit-up city that was hidden behind the ongoing trees.

Cherish looks her way with a smile. "I told you, it's a surprise."

Xamani could feel herself become irritated. "And I told you I don't like those! Tell me where we goin' man!"

"There's no need to raise your voice."

"Then tell me where we goin'."

"No."

"Bro-"

"Look, we'll be there in," Cherish checks the time on her dashboard, "twenty minutes."

"You sayin' that like that's not a long time!"

"It's not. Just relax, will you? I promise I'm not gonna kill you."

Xamani squints at her suspiciously. "I ain't say you would."

"You don't have to say it. I can tell. But seriously just relax. Close your eyes," Cherish suggests. "Put your seat back. Just do something to pass the time."

"You crazy if you think I'm gone willingly lay my seat back in a car wit'chu. A complete stranger."

"What about some music? Is that what you want?" Cherish turns on the stereo and jazz fills the car.

"No, ion want that I want'chu ta tell me where we goin'."

"I have other games you can play. Would you like to play them?"
