Chapter 21

Ashwin's pov

I woke up to the sound of my mother's voice, "Ashwin..Ashwin", she gently called. I felt a sharp pain in my head, I felt dizzy, yet I managed to open my eyes and the first thing I said was "Sivaangi". I whispered her name few times before I could fully open my eyes. The first person I saw was Amma, she was sitting right beside me on the bed, it was my room, behind her was my dad and Saranya. She stood next to my dad while shedding tears. I was beyond clueless. "Shivu" I said again, trying to wake up, but I felt dizzy.

"Don't wake up Ashwin. Your head is injured, you got into an accident remember ?", Amma asked.

The last thing I remember is being in car beside Shivu and then I heard a loud bang, I couldn't remember anything besides that.

"Where's Shivu ? I need to see her now !", I said in worry.

"Don't get panic, you need rest, you don't have to think about her. This is not a good sign. She is unclucky. That's why it lead to an accident, because of her", amma nagged.

"Maa just tell me where's Shivu", I yelled.

"She's fine da, she's at her home. She has some minor scratches that's all. Even your injury is very minimal. Amma exaggerating it", Saranya said and rolled her eyes.

I left a relieved sigh. I felt as I gained my life back. I immediately started finding my phone to call Shivu.

"Here's your phone, I charged it", Saranya handed me the phone.

"Do you feel okay now ?", My dad asked.

"Yes pa, just a little pain. Nothing else", I replied.

"Yeah and the doctor said you'll need a day or two days rest and then you'll be back as normal", Saranya said.

"You all don't understand this ! This is a bad sign. She caused this.", Amma continued to nag.

"Maa", I said having no power to argue with her right now.

"Maa just stop it. There's no such thing like that. It's just a small accident", Saranya said.

"No one will listen to me. I don't know what else is waiting to happen", Amma said.

"Shh, let's go outside. Let him rest. Don't keep nagging to him", my dad said.

All three of them left the room. I quicky turned my phone on, 8 missed calls and 12 messages from Shivu. I called her , she answered within the first ring.

"Ashwin !", she said in worry.

"Shivu, are you okay ? I'm so sorry it's my fault", I said.

"I'm okayy Ashwin, just a few scratches on hand, I was just worried about you, I called Anni, she said your head is injured and you're resting", she explained.

"I'm fine ma, I'm really sorry for my carelessness. I caused you to get hurt", I said genuinely regretted.

"No Ashwineyy , I'm just fine. It doesn't even hurt. Also it's not your fault, it's the other car's fault. In fact, later I'm coming to see you", she said in a cheerful voice.

"Really ? Don't you need rest ?", I asked.

"As I said, I'm fine. I'm coming later", she said.

We hung up the call. I felt a huge relief to know that she's okay.

An hour later, my room door opened, it was her. Seeing her fine put a huge smile on my face. She smiled back. She quickly ran towards me and gave me a warm hug, just what I needed. I hugged her back and pecked a kiss on her forehead.

"I'm glad you're okay !", I said.

She gently caressed my forehead making all my pain fly away. She slowly kissed on my forehead and said "You'll be okay Ashwineyy. I'm here for you". I smiled and said "I know Chellama".

"I love you Ashwineyy", she said.

"I love you more, Shivu", I said.

"I've got something for you", she said excitedly.

"What's that ?", I asked curiously.

She took something out that she had been hiding in her duppata, it was ice cream. She smiled widely and handed me the ice cream.

"Here, I sneaked this in for you", she said.

"Amma paathange avelo thaa", I said laughing.

"I'll cover for you.", she said insisting me to eat it.

"I'm too tired, I need someone to feed me", I said with a fake sad face

"Ohh, you was fine 2 seconds ago", she said sarcastically.

"Enakage panne matiya ma?", I said with a puppy face.

"Okayy ma, pandre ma", she mocked me.

Then, she scooped some ice cream and fed me. She knows what will make me better just right. I scooped some and feed her too. Shivu intentionally put some ice cream on my nose. Then, she laughed at me. I held her face and rubbed my nose on hers taking a sweet revenge, we both laughed.

"You came alone ?", I asked her.

"No, Amma Appa and Harrish , they're down, giving us some privacy", she giggled.

I drowned in her innocence and cuteness. I kept looking in her eyes while she was non stop talking something. She noticed it and raised her eyebrows as a sign of asking what I'm looking at. Without answering anything, I cupped her face and kissed her on both cheeks. She started blushing. I caressed her cheeks while looking in to her eyes that were filled with love. We both jerked by a knock on the door. We immediately corrected our positions.

"Come in", I said.

My amma entered the room with a bowl of fruits. She gave a deadly stare to Shivu. Shivu looked at me cluelessly. She handed me the bowl of fruits.

"How are you aunty?", Shivu asked my mom.

She didn't answer Shivu but stared at her again and left the room.

"What just happened?", Shivu asked me.

"Leave it ma, she's overthinking that's all", I calmed Shivu.

"Overthinking what ?", She asked again.

"Just leave it ma. She will be okay , you don't worry about it", I said trying to not tell her.

"Tell me Ashwin, why isn't she talking to me?", Shivu insisted to know.

"She thinks it's your luck that caused this accident", I said.

I know it broke her heart , I didn't want to tell her but since she insisted and she has the rights to know I told her. Tears immediately started rolling down her cheeks. She started crying uncontrollably.

"Shivu , please don't cry. This is why I didn't want to tell you. Please ma, don't cry, she will be okay. Trust me I'll fix this" I said trying comfort her while hugging.

"I didn't mean to do this to you", she said while still crying.

"Heyy, what you did ? Don't talk like this", I said while caressing her hair.

She continued crying.

"Shh, it's okay Shivu. If you trust me stop crying. I can fix this", I gently said.

She slowly stopped crying. She looked up to me and asked

"You won't leave me right?", She said

"Heyy Shivu, nothing can make me leave you, it's not even an option. Remember that. I love you more than anything", I said hugging her again.

"I love you too Ash", she whispered

"Trust me, it will be okay. Now smile", I said.

She looked up at me gave her precious smile.
