"So . . .," I begin to say to Lenny while walking through Route Three. "What other pokemon do you have aside from Mime Jr."

"All I have is Mime Jr.," Lenny answers. "I have had Mime Jr. ever since I helped Brock hatch it from an egg." While he is saying all of this, I reach into my bag and grab a couple of pokeballs and a few all white pokeballs, with a red line going through the middle, called premier balls. In total I gave him seven balls, five normal pokeballs and two premier balls.

"Why don't we change that and let's have you catch your first ever pokemon!" I say excitedly to Lenny. His eyes widen and he happily accepts the pokeballs I gave him. Lenny runs ahead of me excited, I smile thinking back to when I caught Mankey and how it was my first pokemon that I caught. I pick up the pace and catch up with him, Lenny is crouching down near some tall grass. I crouch next to him and look in the direction he is looking, a flock of red-winged and brown body pokemon are sitting there. I pull out my pokedex, it lets me know that those are Spearow the tiny bird pokemon.

Lenny pulls out one of the premier balls, stands up, and throws the premier ball yelling; "Pokeball, GO!" The flock of Spearow all scatter after hearing Lenny yell, revealing another pokemon, the premier ball hits this pokemon and sucks it inside. It lands on the grass and begins to shake, after a few seconds it dings. Lenny has just captured his first pokemon, grabs the premier ball. "I wasn't aiming for whatever this pokemon is, but I'm excited that I caught something." Lenny informs me.

"Send it out," I tell Lenny. "I want to see what it is."

"Bet," Lenny says excitedly. "Come on out!" He throws the ball up in the air and reveals the pokemon, it has a gritted body and has a yellowish-brown color to it. I point my pokedex towards it, the pokedex informs me that this is the mouse pokemon Sandshrew, and that it's a ground type. I let Lenny know what it's moves are and ask him if he wants me to teach it rock tomb. "No thank you." He tells me, returning his Sandshrew back into its pokeball. "So where are we heading to?" Lenny asks me.

"To Cerulean City," I responded. "But first, we need to go to, and go through, Mt. Moon." We kept walking up Route Three. I occasionally battled some random trainers on the way, but they were pretty one sided with me winning all of them. Lenny and I get to this big boulder that is in the middle of the dirt road, we both see that a Charmander is laying down on top of it.

"Woah," Lenny excitedly says. "A wild Charmander!" He grabs a pokeball and chucks it at the Charmander laying down. Charmander instinctively gets up and slaps the pokeball away with its tail, and lays back down. "Man." Lenny whines. He grabs another pokeball, but I stop him before he can throw it.

"Maybe it's best if we leave it alone," I say. "Sometimes it's best to let the pokemon choose you to be its trainer." Lenny looks at the Charmander and looks at me repeatedly until he puts away the pokeball. I get into my bag and grab a few berries, I put them all in front of Charmander. It stares at me for a while, and suddenly the Charmander burns all of the berries up using an ember, reducing them to ashes. In the process of doing that, Charmander nearly hits Lenny and I.

"We should get out of here!" Lenny yells.

"Then let's start running!" I shout in agreement. Lenny and I book it pass the boulder Charmander is on, while we pass it it tries to hit us with another ember. We kept sprinting further and further, not knowing if the Charmander was chasing us.

After about an hour of sprinting, we stop to catch our breaths. I look over a patch of tall grass and see two similar looking pokemon, one was purple with a horn and the other was blue and didn't have a horn. I pull out my pokedex; it reveals to me that these two pokemon are both called Nidoran; the purple one is a male and the blue one is a female. The pokedex also tells me that these pokemon evolve into separate pokemon, despite both being called Nidoran, and are both poison types. I smirk, and slowly grab two pokeballs out from my bag.
