I walked towards the stairs, slightly nervous, but mostly excited. I reached the bottom of the stairs, and started walking towards the battlefield. A man in an orange etire was already standing on the side furthest away from the balcony, and Lt. Surge had his arms folded while he was waiting. I reached the battlefield, holding one of my pokemon's pokeball.

"Once both trainers send out their pokemon, the fifth battle of the first round can begin!" Lt. Surge announced.

"Magikarp, let's do this!" The man, I assumed was Dale, said. A red pokemon that was flopping on the ground appeared. I pulled out my pokedex, and I was informed that this was a water type known as Magikarp. The pokedex also informed me that this is considered one of the weakest pokemon in the world. I put my pokedex away, and got ready to throw out my pokemon.

"Nidoran, I choose you!" I said. My Nidoran appeared from its pokeball, and it was ready for a battle.

"Battle," Lt. Surge started saying while raising his hand in the air. "Begin!"

"Magikarp, use splash!" Dale commanded. His Magikarp started flailing around, but it wasn't really doing much else.

"Uh," I said, getting kinda confused. "Nidoran use poison sting!" Nidoran began shooting out white thin needles from its mouth, and hit Magikarp, creating a small explosion. Once the smoke cleared, Magikarp was still flopping around. We kept on attacking with poison sting, until I noticed that Magikarp was surrounded by purple streaks of electricity. I smirked now knowing that Magikarp was poison, but also because I didn't want to waste any more time using the same move over and over again.

"Magikarp, use tackle!" Dale said. His Magikarp jumped high into the air, and was coming towards Nidoran.

"Dodge and use peck!" I said in response. Nidoran dodged Magikarp's attack and retaliated with its yellow glowing horn, jabbing and sending Magikarp flying backwards. Magikarp landed on the ground, and created a dust cloud when it landed. Visisable purple electricity could be seen through the dust. After about a minute, the dust cleared, revealing that Dale's Magikarp had fainted with its eyes being swirly and the purple electricity appearing and disappearing.

"Magikarp is unable to battle, Nidoran wins this round!" Lt. Surge announced.

"Tsk," Dale said in frustration. "Magikarp return!" He returned his Magikarp to its pokeball. "Poliwhirl, it's time, I choose you!" Dale throws a pokeball with multiple shades of blue in the shape of waves. A Poliwhirl appears from the pokeball Dale threw. I smirked, confident in winning this battle.

"Nidoran, get ready!" I told my Nidoran.

"Battle, begin!" Lt. Surge declared.

"Nidoran, use leer!" I demanded. Nidoran's eyes glowed yellow, and it stared down Poliwhirl, lowering its defenses.

"Poliwhirl, don't just stand there," Dale yelled. "Use water pulse, NOW!" Poliwhirl began forming a ball of energized water with both of its hands. Poliwhirl then sent the ball of water flying towards Nidoran.

"Nidoran, dodge and retaliate with poison sting!" I responded. Nidoran dodge the ball of water, and striked back by shooting out thin white needles from its mouth. The needles made contact with Poliwhirl, creating a small explosion of black smoke.

"Poliwhirl, teach 'em a lesson," Dale shouted. "Use double slap!" His Poliwhirl rushed out from the cloud of smoke and began slapping Nidoran repeatedly.

"Nidoran, use leer!" I commanded. Nidoran's eyes began to glow yellow, and it stared at Poliwhirl, dropping its defenses. "Now, use poison sting!" I said this while reaching my arm out. Nidoran then shot out thin white needles from its mouth, and they once again made contact with Poliwhirl. A small explosion was created from the attack, and once the smoke cleared, Poliwhirl was laying down on the ground, its eyes being as swirly as its belly.
