Chapter 33: Shadow of a Doubt

A week later after recovering from what happened with Nick, I was helping Archie campaign for Fred. Going from door to door handing out fliers. Ever since my last kidnapping, I was not allowed to be out and alone. I had to be escorted home and to any place where I needed to be. Which my handsome boyfriend was more than happy to escort me places. Both dad and Fred were happy that he was in my life and protected me so much. Jughead and Archie on the other hand, it took them a bit of warming up at first, but now they are grateful that Sweet Pea was my boyfriend and has proven that he is right for me to them. When Mom did find out I was dating a Serpent like Betty, she wasn't too fond about it, but once she meant him, she knew he was good for me. It was just what Sweet Pea had told her. Shocking I know. When we started dating the Serpents were all happy that Sweet Pea had found someone and some were shocked at how someone caught my heart so fast. But someone who was very happy for us was Hogeye, he always thought of me as his daughter after his daughter had died a year before I was born and his wife left him. I was someone who he cared about, even though Hogeye also liked Sweet Pea as a person he also threatened him if he hurt me like all the other guys in my life. At the moment I was walking with Betty and Jughead. 

"Any word on Chic?" I asked. After saw that I was home he told me everything that went down with Chic. 

"No. He hasn't called since I took him to the bus station," Betty answered. "So, who knows? Maybe he's gone for good." 

"Hey, the silver lining to all this Chic stuff over the last couple of weeks..." Jughead rambled. "That's as bad as it gets, Betty. It can't get worse, how could it?" 

"My dad could be the Black Hood," Betty responded. At that moment I remember that day. When Hal Cooper was in Polly's room on the phone, as he stared into my room. 

"Yeah, okay. Well, that would be worse," Jughead scoffed as he walked ahead of us. 

"I was able to listen to the last few calls," I whispered. "Why haven't you told anyone that you know who has been calling you again?" 

"I'm scared Dani," Betty answered. 

"Chic didn't take the bus out of town did he?" I asked. 

"I don't want to talk about it," Betty said. 

"Talk to Cheryl," I advised.

When we got to school I was immediately greeted by Sweet Pea and a kiss on the cheek. Jughead and Betty looked at each other with a smirk before walking away. 

"How are you feeling today?" Sweet Pea asked as he held my hand. 

"A lot better," I answered. 

"Are you coming to the Swords and Serpents meeting?" Sweet Pea asked. 

"Of course," I agreed. 

"I can't wait to show off my girlfriend to the Serpents," Sweet Pea smiled. "Well again." 

"They already know who I am, babe," I reminded him. 

"Doesn't mean I can't show you off," Sweet Pea pointed out. We then sat in a Swords and Serpents meeting. 

"War Baby called my father and me from Shankshaw," Jughead announced. "Her old adversaries, the Ghoulies, had been released. Word on the street is that they want Serpent blood. They're gunning for a re-match. They want war." At the moment the door opened, revealing Josh, Reggie, the Bulldogs, and Kevin. 

"Which one of you reptiles was screwing Midge Klump?" Josh demanded. 

"What the hell is going on?" Jughead demanded. "This is a private meeting."
