Going home

Days past and Nick has not returned. I'm still pretty shaken from the visit.  I just was glad I was leaving today.

I was given a bag to pack my things in. I didn't have much. Just clothes, books, and some candy. I slip on my shoes just as my mom walks in she smiles at me and I give a half smile back. I sling the bag over my shoulder and head to the main lobby.

My mom checks me out. I sit down in an open chairZ waiting for my mom to stop talking with the lady at the front. I look up for a moment to catch what looks like a crying Sheila. I wonder what's she doing here. I disregard her and continue to look at my shoes.

Mom finally decided it's time to go home so I stand up and follow her out of the hospital.

It was a cool July day. Not blazing hot. The air was breathable and cold. The rain drizzled delicately on the streets. My favorite weather. I hop in the car and shut  the door.

My head was pressed up against the window watching the rain pour down. Building we're passing by in a blur and brown, green, crimson, and blue. This allows me to think about Nick's words.
________2 weeks later_________
Sitting in your room eating candy is a very nice way to spend your summer. Also to think about how your previous lover is two faced.

I stare out my window. Trying to make sense of all of this. I feel like I am repeating myself. I just don't understand.  A part of me hates him. How could someone you who kisses me, liked me, held my hand through the darkest time, lie to me. I didn't believe a word he said.

But there was also a apart of me that wanted to. I think about it for a moment more. I then stop. I remember a string of words used in a book.

"Innocent until proven guilty...", I whisper to myself. The words sink in. Then it hits me! I know what I have to do.

I rush down stairs and into the kitchen to find my mom cutting up herbs and vegetables.

"Mom?", I ask trying to keep my excitement contained. She looks over her shoulder and smiles.

"Yes darling."
I heave a large breathe before responding.

"I would like to visit the Goodes."
