Afterglow

Bella's eyes scanned the black box that was placed on top of her chair when she walked into her biology class.

A square sized black box, with no words, no colors, nothing. Just a jet black box that only reminded Bella of a few dark days she went through in the past week or so.

The classroom was empty, only Bella was there, which was mainly because she wasn't in the mood to meet up with anyone before class so she decided to go earlier than usual.

But turns out someone else came here before her, and placed the small black box on top of her chair.

She slowly opened the box, afraid that some sort of a prank will pop up, but immediately relaxed when she saw 4 mixtapes inside it.

It confused her to see mixtapes in a year when you can use an iPod or an iPhone to listen to music, so the thought of using mixtape for something other than listening to music crossed her mind.

What if it has a suicidal massage? She thought.

No it can't be. It must be something else.

Her fingertips brushed the surface of the mixtapes, as her blue irises observed the small rectangular pieces and took them in.

The words - perhaps names - Youngblood, lie to me, lover of mine and place in me, were written down on each of the four mixtapes with a handwriting she recognized for some blue eyed blondie who sets next to her in most classes.

Bella's eyebrows knotted in confusion, as a voice in the back of her head kept telling her to listen to them now.

Just as she grabbed one of the mixtapes, the bell rang. Her hands rushed to grab the lid and close the box then shove it inside her backpack.

Saying that Bella listened to everything her teachers and friends said during the whole day is definitely a lie. Her mind was occupied with questions, only can be answered by listening to the tapes.

The tapes. Bella couldn't get them out of her mind, not until she was home, searching for something to play the tapes with.

An old player could do the job, she said, before running towards her room and locking the door, then setting cross legged on her bed.

If she knew that she'll be a crying mess after listening to those tapes, maybe she wouldn't have rushed to listen to them.

She grabbed the first mixtape, placed it inside the player then pressed play.

Remember the words you told me love me till the day I die

She heard.

Her eyelids immediately closed shut, as the words and the angelic voice she's grown to love went inside her ears.

Surrender my everything 'cause you made me believe you're mine

Is this real? His voice?

She couldn't believe it's the voice of the same person who broke her heart.

Yeah, you used to call me baby, now you calling me by name

She used to call him baby, at a time when things were simpler and easier. When they were younger and deeply in love.

Takes one to know one, yeah
You beat me at my own damn game

What game? He was the one playing games, not Bella.

Was he just lying in the song?

You push and you push and I'm pulling away
Pulling away from you
