Hard love.

That's what the 3 black siblings were always shown, that love always came with a price, how unconditional love wasn't real and should never be expected. They were also always taught that women had no value, they had no purpose in life other than to be a good fuck and to bear sons. Of course, the 3 Black children hated when their parents talked about women in that way, but it especially triggered the youngest child. She felt as though they were degrading her entire existence (which they were)

Growing up disagreeing with everything their parents taught them, the Black siblings were very close. The oldest Sirius Orion Black, was the first Black in history to be placed in Gryffindor (coming in a very close second place to being their parents least favourite), middle being Regulus Arcturus Black, their parents pride and joy, and finally Luna Walburga Black, the accidental twin to Regulus whose parents never let her forget she was just that, an unwanted accident.

Last year, when the news came home that Sirius had been sorted into Gryffindor, shit hit the fan in the Black household. Saying Walburga and Orion were embarrassed would be an understatement. They were embarrassed, angry, and quite honestly abusive. It got so bad for Luna that she owled Sirius not to come home for Christmas, fearing for not only his, but her own safety if he came home with Gryffindor uniform. Things were bad for Regulus, but not nearly to the extent they were for Luna. She was broken. Her parents had broken her. And Regulus knew it. He knew just how misogynistic his parents were and how little he could do to help her. How little he could do to protect his baby sister.

He hated himself for it

It was the day that students would being coming home from Hogwarts for Christmas, that Sirius' letter had arrived to inform his parents that he was staying with his new friend James Potter rather than coming home. After that Regulus was sent to his room, the next time he saw Luna, hours later, she in the worst condition she had ever been in. She had burn marks tracing up and down both arms, very clearly from a cigarette, angling with her left foot being bent at an angle that could never be described as natural.

That was the day Regulus vowed to take care of his sister, to protect her, even if it killed him.

When Luna heard her door creak open that night, she readied herself for more of her mother's rage, because whilst her father had been in the room, mainly getting increasingly drunk, it was her mother who physically hurt her, but was surprised to see both her big brothers walk in. Sirius, who after receiving a frantic owl from Regulus, had had James father, Fleamont Potter, apparate him straight home and climbed in through Regulus' window. Seeing just how bad a state she was actually in they both rushed over to her bed, forcing her to lie back into her pillows as she tried to insist she was fine. Sirius pulled out a bottle that James mother had given him, telling him it healed healing any outward damaged and helped prevent scarring, and proceed to put a few drops into his hands, passing the bottle to Regulus who copied his actions, and rubbed it into Lunas arms. A sharp burn was followed by relief rushing through her body as she attempted to sit up once again. "What have I done" was the only thing Sirius could think to say as he continued to examine his 10-year-old baby sister

Seeing the concern on both her brothers faces, and particularly the fear on Sirius', Luna tries to calm them "I told you not to come back Siri, remember? That was my decision. Besides, Fathers not even that mad, Mother did everything" indicating the last part by pointing to her arms and foot.

At that Regulus finally broke down in tears

"Reg?"

"I'm sorry Looney, I'm so sorry..."

"Reg, hey Reg look at me," He turns is face to look at her, still with tears pouring down his face "Nothing that has happened is your fault," turning to look at Sirius as well "This is neither of your faults, this is our messed up families. And we can't help that, so please don't cry. It's not worth it"

"How can you be so strong?" Sirius whispers, astonished by his sister's mature words

"I'm not strong, I just know everything happens for a reason, so whatever is happening right now must be for a reason."

Luna's words linger in the air, and when it becomes clear that neither of her brothers have an answer she reaches up and pulls them both so their lying on either side of her. "You guys are the only family that matter to me, never forget that" She whispers feeling both their arms around her and totally safe, being able to sleep knowing that neither of them would every do anything to harm her...

Soon though, Luna Black would learn just how important it is for her to have these boys by her side, just how lucky she is to have built in bodyguards. How scary the world can be without them by her side, because as we all know, nothing lasts forever. Not really.
