Here's a little view into the future whilst I try and get over my writers block :)

It physically pained Professor McGonagall to watch the new Gryffindor quidditch team.

It was 1991, the first quidditch match of the season, and as McGonagall took her place in the stands, her mind when back to another first quidditch match, so many years ago. When the world that she knew was safe, her favourite students were still safe, and her heart was still whole; as much as she hated to admit it, losing those kids, it broke something inside of her... something she could never find again.

On the pitch were names she recognised, Katie Bell, who was the daughter of two famous Slytherin quidditch players, and her cousin (not that they knew it of course, having been separated after both their sets of parents died) Harry Potter. He was a legend, A living legend. At only 1 year old he defeated the greatest dark wizard of all time.

But what was the cost?

How much would those 2 children have to pay?

Katie would never know how her father sacrificed himself to save everyone, how everything he ever did was to protect the ones he loved, how true and pure he really was. She would never know how much her mum did for her father, how Maria brought Regulus back from the edge, and ultimately died a heroes death. Katie would never know how much she was loved, or the family that she had, who were just out of her reach. Katie would only know her grandma, Marias mum who took Katie in, and tried to educate her on everything about the wizarding world, but just didn't understand it. Katie would never know what she was missing.

Harry would never learn how his mother and father fell in love, or how much his mother went through to be even in a position to have him, how strong she really was... he would only know what other people, people who only saw Luna, but never knew her, told him. For the plain and simple reason that the people who knew her, really knew her, were dead on in prison. He would only hear stories about his father "James Potter, one of Hogwarts greatest pranksters" but would never know what James actually went through, how kind and caring he actually was. Harry had to have the upbringing that Luna swore her child would never have, he had to go through all her worst nightmares...and more. Harry would never know; He would never know how protective Luna and James were of him, how much they wanted for him to have the perfect life. He would never know how Lunas heart broke when she realised, she was dying and couldn't stop it, how James searched for her body, never stopping loving her for even a second, until his death. Harry would never know how his Aunt Lily looked after him after Lunas death, and basically kept their little family together when everyone was so broken. Harry Potter would never know how loved he truly was.

Both Katie and Harry would never know their Uncle, and everything Sirius did to protect their parents. They would never know how much Sirius loved them, how he held them when they were born, and cried over their parents deaths. How he was right beside James looking for any answer about where she could have gone. They could never understand how much Sirius Black loved his siblings.

They would never know their Uncle Moony. The man who read them to sleep by the fire, who bought them their first knit sweaters and fluffy socks. The person who would always make sure they got their own chocolate at every possible holiday (even ones he made up)

They would never know their Uncle Wormy, who fed them their first solid food and always baked them cakes. The man that helped whenever Luna or Maria needed a break from all the baby stuff, and was always happy to cuddle them.

They would never know their Aunt Lily

They would never know their Aunt Marleen

They would never know their Aunt Alice

They would never know their Aunt Dorcus

They would never know their Uncle Frank

They would never know everyone who loved them, who considered them family

Harry Potter and Katie Bell were family, but because of circumstance, they would never know.

They would never know how much joy they brought their parents, how much joy they brought their aunts, and uncles. How much joy they brought anyone who met them.

So sitting in that stand, on that day, McGonagall was having déjà vu.

~

Although Gryffindor won that day, there was an aura of sadness around professor McGonagall, reliving the memories of her favourite students, the people who always managed to put a smile on their faces, remembering how rudely and abruptly they were taken away from their lives, their families. And the hole that they left feeling a whole lot bigger.

She remembered how a friendship so tight, how a family bond that everyone thought was indestructible, was destroyed.

All because of one man's betrayal.

Because Sirius Black betrayed his best friends.

Betrayed his sister.

Betrayed the man everyone considered to be his brother.

Betrayed his fiancé.

Betrayed everyone.

Betrayed his own Godchildren, his niece and nephew

And made Harry Potter an orphan

But for the life of her, she could never understand why he made that choice. Honestly, it baffled her.
