Leather and chocolate

The school year was over.

As Luna boarded the Hogwarts express, all she wanted to do was stay at Hogwarts. To run back to the castle and hide in a dark corner somewhere until school restarted.

But she knew she couldn't.

She couldn't let Regulus go back to their house of horrors all by himself, she had to protect him.

Luna walked into the Marauders compartment about 20 minutes before they were due to arrive to Kings Cross, preparing her goodbyes.

She started with Peter, who was undoubtedly the Marauder that she knew the least. Sitting next to him (forcing James over as he made a disgruntled noise), she gently hugged him and kissed his cheek. Blood rushed to his face as he smiled shyly at her grin.

"Have a good summer Peter"

"a-and you L-Luna"

Luna smiled at his nerves, hoping that at him slightly at ease, because she really did want to be friends with him.

Turing her attention to the disgruntled boy on her left, James pulled her into a hug before Luna could even open her mouth.

"You better stay cool little Black"

It embarrassed Luna how her stomach erupted into butterflies by James' action. The nickname alone reminded her of the nights they had spent atop the astronomy tower, and how his presence made her want to melt.

"I-I would....If you would let me breathe!"

Laughing, James realised he had been squeezing her a little tight and released his arms slightly. Not completely though!

"Promise you will write...to all of us..."

"I'll try..." Honestly Luna had no idea if she could actually write to them, but she wasn't lying, she would try her hardest to write.

Still smiling at her, James' heart fell a little seeing the conflict in her eyes, it was one he had seen more than enough times in Sirius' eyes.

"That's enough" he whispered

"Oi Prongs! Let my sister go!" Sirius' voice called from across the compartment, interrupting the moment between James and Luna

James kissed the top of Lunas head before releasing his arms, causing even more butterflies to appear in her stomach, but she played it off by laughing and walking over to sit between Remus and Sirius.

On her left someone whispered in her ear "Finally stopped flirting with Prongs then?"

Elbowing Remus' laughing figure in the ribs, Lunas face blushed bright red

"Don't worry Tiny, I won't tell"

"Tiny?" Luna looked up at his face in confusion "I'm 5'7""

"Yeah but I'm 6'3", so to me your absolutely miniscule Tiny"

Smiling at the boy who always found a way to make her insecurities seem irrelevant Luna sighed sadly "Oh how I'm going to miss you Remmy"

In response Remus pulled the girls shoulders into his side, letting her rest her head against his chest.

They stayed like that for a full minute, Luna taking in Remus' sent that always seemed to put her at ease.

Leather and chocolate.

It was a combination that Luna had never smelt before and probably never would anywhere apart from Remus. She hoped that she wouldn't smell it anywhere other than her Remmy.

"I'm going to miss you too Tiny"

Pulling out for the hug, Luna placed a kiss on Remus' cheek and turned to her brother who was sitting there with a frown on his face.

Smiling at his dramatics, Luna lifted up his arm and placed it over her shoulders.

"Remember me then? I'm only your bloody brother!" Sirius responded grumpily to her moving his arm, however he made no move to move his arm away.

Hitting his chest gently Luna laughed, like full on tears in her eyes hysterics.

How could Sirius stay grumpy while his little sister was the happiest, he had seen her all year.

It was not long before he cracked and broke out into laughter with her.

Finally calming down from her laughing fit, Luna pulled away and looked into Sirius' grey eyes whispering "i'm scared siri"

Placing both his hands-on Lunas shoulders, Sirius pulled Luna into his chest once more, and whispered into her hair "I know you are Looney..."pausing he continued "...but I promise you'll be alright" Just speaking those words, Sirius knew that he had no way of keeping that promise, he was putting all his faith in Regulus protecting Luna.

The sibling shared this moment, just the 2 of them.

It would stay in their hearts forever.

Returning back to her compartment, Luna was preparing how to say goodbye to Maria and Katie.

In the end she just decided to pull them into a group hug.

"I will miss you both so much"

"...so bloody much"

"...I love you lot"

The 3 stayed in a group hug for the next 5 minutes, just sharing each other's company for the last time until September. It was going to be a hard summer for the trio.

Katie and Maria were absolutely terrified for Luna to go home. They wanted desperately for her parents to be nice people, to actually care for their children.

Rather than abuse them.

In their minds they were baffled, because what was the point in having children if you were just going to break them.

What kind of monsters do that?

Pulling out of the hug, Luna smiled at both of them as she stepped out of the compartment. "I promise to try and write"

On the platform, Luna met up with Regulus "You ready Reg?"

"Ready as I'll ever be"
