Luna forbade everyone she loved from entering the tournament.

In her mind, the tournament would lead to someone's death, and she couldn't let it anyone she loved die. She refused to lose anyone else.

This meant all the Marauders were out, along with Marlene, Maria, and Katie. They weren't mad though, knowing that it was probably for the best that they didn't enter anyway. Or at least that's what they told Luna.

Secretly they all wanted to compete, I mean who wouldn't, it was the chance of a lifetime! But they would never leave Luna in the position to lose anyone else. They all loved her too much.

This caused quite the commotion among the students of Hogwarts, not a single person had heard the marauders bragging about how they were going to win the Triwizard Tournament, or talking about how they were going to be the most famous wizard of the century once they won.

There had been rumours, sure, people swearing that they had heard James bragging to Remus about how he was going to get picked over him, to which people swore Remus just laughed and walked away saying "sure."

Today was the day for the champions to get picked.

As all the students crowded into the great hall there were bets on who would be the Hogwarts champion. Admittedly most the bets were on James Potter - being that he was the Gryffindor captain- but Marleen had some, along with most the Slytherins betting on Maria.

Quite a lot of people would be losing their money.

Luna, who was sitting next to Marleen and Sirius, opposite James, Peter, Lily and Remus was honestly finding the whole betting situation funny, knowing that none of her loved ones were in danger of being chosen to compete in this stupid tournament.

Behind her, Katie and Maria were sitting at the Ravenclaw table, having recently found friendship with Xenophilius Lovegood and Pandora Lestrange, a 7th year couple who ran the school newspaper. The quartet were laughing at one of Maria's cheesy jokes, which made Luna happy on the inside, knowing that they were happy and safe.

As Dumbledore started talking, the whole crowd of students silenced "Now, the moment we've all been waiting for...the champion selection!"

Walking forward, Dumbledore reached up so both his hand were on the Goblet of Fire as he shut his eyes. Taking in a deep breath, he stepped back, watching, along with every person in the hall, as the goblet went from blue to a red that could be perceived as purple, and a piece of paper shot out.

Catching it with ease, Dumbledore read out "Our first champion, from Durmstrang...Mickael Berg!"

To the left of Luna, at the Slytherin table erupted into cheers, as a tall boy with dirty blonde hair stood up from the table, dressed in red robes with gold buttons with a sort of brooding smirk on his face, as he strutted, yes actually strutted, towards his headmaster, who embraced him before guiding him towards a back room.

As the cheers died back down, the goblet turned the same red/purple colour as another piece of paper flew into Dumbledore's hand "The Beauxbatons champion is...Harriette Monet!"

As the Ravenclaw table exploded into cheers, just as the Slytherin one had before, a brunette girl dressed in dark blue silk robes stood up, and practically floated over to her headmistress with how even her steps were.  Madame Maxime embraced her student, kissing both of Harriette's cheeks before she guided the girl to the same room that Mickael had been taken to.

Whilst the champions were being announced, Luna let her mind wander to the question of who the Hogwarts champion was going to be. Rationally she knew that she had no idea who it could possibly be, with all the obvious choices having not entered because of her. There was one person it could be though, a person that Luna had tried not to think about, because every time she did it made her want to breakdown. Regulus Black. Surely, he was smart enough not to enter, to know that this tournament had ended in death more times than it hadn't. Merlin Luna hoped that Regulus hadn't put his name in. Realistically if he had, there was a strong chance that he would get chosen. He had all the markers that the Goblet looked for. But Luna refused to let her mind go there. She knew her twin well enough to know he wasn't that stupid...at least she thought she did.

"And finally, the Hogwarts champion is..." Dumbledores voice pulling Luna back to reality as she began listening to what was going on around her again "Luna Black!"

Luna must have misheard, there was no way that she could have been picked. She hadn't even put her name in.

The cheers around her said something entirely different though, they told her that she had infect heard correctly and was now the official Hogwarts champion.

Turing to Sirius with fearful eyes, the boy next to her knew immediately that she had not entered herself. Upon hearing Luna's name be called, the whole group had a moment of doubt, but when they saw her reaction, her fear, they knew that something else was happening here. They knew she was being set up. Smiling and holding Luna's hand, Sirius guided them both out of the hall, knowing the noise was not going to help anything.

What the rest of the students saw as a brother congratulating his baby sister, was actually a brother trying to protect his terrified baby sister.

When Dumbledore called out "Luna Black!" Regulus' blood had run cold, she would never enter this tournament herself. He would have known that even if he hadn't overheard her forbidding Maria and Katie from entering the 'stupid fucking tournament'. He knew his twin sister, even if she didn't know him anymore, he would always know and love her.

Looking across the hall Regulus saw Luna tense and turn to Sirius. He saw Sirius plaster a fake smile over his shocked face and guide them both back into the room with the other to victors. Regulus saw an interaction that would have been seen as happy if he didn't know better, an interaction that would be somewhat normal if he didn't have a clue. But Regulus knew. He could read the pair better than he could read any book in the world, so he knew, he knew they were both scared out of their minds for what this announcement meant.

Catching eyes with a blonde from across the hall, Regulus wanted nothing more than to run out behind his sister and brother and comfort Luna. To pull Luna into his arms and tell her how sorry he was, and that everything was going to be ok because they would be able to fight it together, as a family. But the blonde, as if reading his mind, simply shook her head, and that was all Regulus needed as a no. If Luna's best friend was telling him not to go after his sister, it meant that he shouldn't. That he should stay put because going after Luna would only hurt her more and she didn't need that right now. All Luna needed was safety, and Merlin knows that Regulus can't provide that.
