A voice broke the silence, and I recognized it to be Sammy's. I jumped up, excited to see our heros return.

"We made it lil mama" Nate said upon seeing me. I ran to him and he picked me up, spun me around and kissed me.

"I got so worried Nate" I said, placing my hands on his cheeks. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine Katie" he groaned.

"no you're not Oh my God" I exclaimed, placing a thumb on his bleeding lip. he rolled his eyes and licked his lips, pulling my hand away from his face.

"I'm okay" he insisted. i looked into his eyes for a few seconds before looking away. "We have to go" he said as he stepped into the back seat. Briley took the wheel with Sammy in the passenger seat. I sat back with Nate.

"so where are we headed next?" I asked as Nate grabbed my hand in his.

"Las Vegas" Sammy smiled looking into the rear view mirror. A sense of excitement came over me but doubt immediately washed it away.

"Sammy that's way out of our way"

"I know, but thats what's so smart about it" seeing that i wasnt picking up what he was saying, he continued, "You see, when you're a criminal-"

"-which we're not" I cut him off.

"You gotta take irregular driving patterns. You can't just go in a straight line." he finished. Fair enough.

It's funny how a few months ago I was concerned over Gilinsky, whether we'd have sex or not, or if people ever found out, but now I'm more worried over whether we'll get caught by the police instead. Whether we can stay alive another week or where we're going to sleep for the night. It's crazy how certain you can be over what direction your life is going in, but you don't have total control. In an instant fate can take over and leave you dumbfounded. And there's nothing you could have done. The decision was already predetermined; written in stone or something and not a pen in the world can change it.

"watcha thinking about?" Nate asked, breaking me from my thoughts.

"How quickly everything changed." i replied.

"come here" he said opening his arms. I leaned against his chest, and he began running his fingers through my hair.

"Don't think too hard," Briley said from the driver's seat, "you'll start to miss the comfort and safety of your old life, but it's useless to put yourself through that because theres nothing you can actually do about it. Then you'll be depressed and what for? What you should be doing is focusing on all of the opportunities that are to come. Think about all of the things you don't know, rather than what you used to know"

(A/N: Holy shit this chapter was deep as shit)
