In light of my terribly written ending to the last chapter, I will rewrite the ending with more detail.
We approached the center of town, where we saw a large group of people. Some were sitting, some were standing, many were holding signs; some of which read "set them free, end their flee" or "our heroes will not fall to a failing government" and so on. Out of curiosity, we drove closer. As we approached the outskirts of the gathering, Briley rolled down her window.
"What's going on out here?" She asks a young woman, holding a baby in her arms. Seeing her hair, the woman's eyes widened and a smile spread across her face.
"This is for you guys" an older lady said said, holding a sign that said "rape is imprisonment enough, free our heroes" I turned away, unable to face what was to come. "We're protesting for your rights and freedom. The police are on their way though, you should head out." She warned.
We thanked her and asked to pass a message thanking everyone who was contributing to the rally/protest. As soon as she nodded in agreement, a ear splitting sound sent shock waves through my body. I turned to see a corner store's windows fall to pieces like glitter and the contents of the store slowly catch fire.
I didnt want this. Of course i wanted people to see my side and fight for justice but i don't want any violence; it could only end one way.
"We gotta go" Nate said, pulling me away as soon as sirens erupted. I couldnt look away; my eyes were glued. Despite Nate dragging me back to the car, my body resisted. I was frozen. The crack of a gun woke me from my trance as I saw a protester firing at a police man. Something inside me told me to stop it right now.
"STOP!!!" I screamed as I ran towards the shots. Nate followed directly behind me but couldn't quite catch up. My heart was beating so quickly and heavily that even if Nate was trying to say something the blood pumping through me was louder.
"STOP THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!" I yelled as i approached the scene. Both sides of the conflict stopped to look at me in confusion. I wasted no time trying to grab the gun from the man, and thats when everything collapsed. My last memory was feeling more than one pair of hands on me, pulling me in different directions.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I regained consciousness to a silent hum. As i tried to process where I was, I heard Nate moan slightly.
"Nate where are we?" I asked, about to rub the sleep from my eyes when my hand was yanked back down next to my other one. I was in handcuffs.
"Wha??" I asked confused. I looked down to see my hands chained together. I also came upon the realization that i was in the back of a big van along with Nate.
"We got arrested after you tried to stop the shooter. Unfortunately peace wishing doesnt help our case." He lifted his hands as if to show me the handcuffs. No. This couldnt be happening. This is it? The end? Im going to live the rest of my life in prison anf all because I didn't want the police getting hurt.
"Sammy and Briley?" I asked.
"They got away ma, left as soon as you took off towards the gunman." They left us? No thats impossible they wouldnt do that.... would they? I cant believe they turned their back on us...
"I feel like im gonna throw up" i said. He didnt respond, just fixed a stare on the small window of the van, as if deep in thought. Suddenly, the tires screetched and we swerved way off the road and i could feel us falling. Only once have i feared for my life more than i did in that moment. The night it happened. And all of a sudden it was black again....
"Grab my hand!" I heard a familiar voice yell.
"Grab my hand!".....
