10. Goodbye...Old Friend

Hiccup and Athena, both smiling, nod at each other and press their heads together.

Toothless, after walking past the Light Fury, looks at Hiccup, who smiles at him. Toothless looks towards the horizon and back to Hiccup again. Hiccup also looks at the horizon and back to Toothless. He then walks to Toothless and holds his face.

"You're right, bud. It's time. I was so busy fighting for a world that I wanted, I didn't think about what you needed." Hiccup looks at the Light Fury.

"You've looked after us for long enough. Time to look after yourselves."

Astrid looks at Stormfly and takes her saddle off.

"Oh, Stormfly, my good girl." She says, crying.

Gobber takes his saddle off of Grump.

"All right, Grumpy. Off you go."

Eret takes his saddle off of Skullcrusher.

"So long, you big ugly beast. I'll miss you."

All the other dragon riders take off their saddles.

"Oh, Cloudjumper."

Tuffnut nudges Ruffnut, who looks at him sadly.

After watching this, Hiccup looks back at Toothless again.

"Go on, bud. Lead them to the Hidden World. You'll be safe there. Safer than you could ever be with me. It's okay." Hiccup places his head on Toothless' head. "I love you too. And I want you to be free. Our world doesn't deserve you... yet."

Toothless hugs Hiccup.

"Go, Toothless. Go."

Hiccup places his hand on Toothless' snout and then moves his hand away from Toothless.

Toothless looks behind him, only to see Athena just looking at Puff, with red eyes, and tears streaming down her face. Puff looks down at her sadly.

"I know you have to go...and I can't stop you. Can I? You and I have been on a journey of a lifetime together, and." She goes to take Puff's saddle off, and holds it. "And I-I will never forget you Puff. You really are a girl's best friend." Puff goes to hug her, as she sobs uncontrollably.

"This next adventure, you have to have on your own, will be amazing Puff. Thank you for being apart of mine. I love you." She says, kissing her dragon's cheek.

"All good things must come to an end..."

The white haired girl says, backing away from her dragon, as Hiccup nods and Toothless roars, followed by all the dragons on the island.

The Light Fury flies off the island to the Hidden World first, followed by the other dragons except Toothless and Puff. Toothless and Puff turn their heads to Hiccup who nods, and then to Athena who smiles and nods.

They fly off the island together, with the other dragons. The Riders walk to Hiccup, as he holds Athena's waist, kissing Athena's forehead, as they smile at the dragons.

3 years have passed, where the villagers attend Hiccup and Athena's wedding as they finally get married.

Hiccup and Athena join hands and smile at each other, as Gobber holds a bouquet of flowers and wipes away a tear on his face, as Valka looks down at him, and smiles.

Gothi covers Hiccup and Athena's joined hands with a ceremonial cloth and taps the cloth with her staff. Hiccup and Athena kiss each other.

"To the chief and chieftess!"

The villagers all cheer.

Gobber throws the bouquet of flowers and Eret catches them. He looks surprised, as he looks at Astrid but then smiles as they kiss. Snotlout wipes away a tear and starts crying.

"Come, cry into my full thick beard." Snotlout buries his face in Tuffnut's braided beard and continues crying.

"Oh, it's so beautiful!" Fishlegs sobs.

"Ugh, Gross." Ruffnut rolls her eyes, disgusted, as Fishlegs hugs Ruffnut and continues crying.

"Okay, you win. I like sensitive guys." She admits as she hugs Fishlegs back.

Later, the newlyweds stand on a cliff face and look out toward the horizon, soon joined by Gobber, Valka, and the other Dragon Riders. Hiccup and Athena put an arm around each other and lean their heads, wearing thoughtful expressions.
